Susan Boyle's Idol Gets Nasty, Calls Her a 'Virus'
Susan Boyle has always always professed a deep love for songstress Elaine Paige, with whom she shared the stage last year as they sang Paige's hit 'I Know Him So Well' together. It seems that the adoration is a bit one-sided though, as Paige has fired back at Boyle's rise to stardom and what it took to get there. "'Britain's Got Talent' and 'The X Factor' just take a bunch of people from real life who think they can sing and try and turn them into overnight "stars" with a couple of songs ... Ha ha. It's not entertainment,'" Paige said following an awards show.

Britain's Daily Mail, Paige spoke about Boyle's career at the South Bank Awards. When asked about Boyle's rise to stardom and the fact that the internet phenom often cites her as her key influence, Paige said: "I don't particularly feel any pride for her - I'm sure she is proud of what she has done."
Paige said that Boyle "was like a virus really that spread across the world in a nanosecond," saying that her rise to fame via YouTube and the Web doesn't mean she's cut out for showbiz.
"She is a girl with no experience of anything to do with theatrics, the music business, or art in any way ... She has done terribly well to be a major star overnight with YouTube," Paige is quoted as saying.
Terribly well indeed. Boyle's debut album 'I Dreamed a Dream' is the fastest selling female debut album ever, selling more than three million copies worldwide.
When asked about Boyle's longevity in the music industry, Paige chuckled and said that Boyle "is a major star because of YouTube. Longevity is gained through knowledge, experience and effort, so it will remain to be seen."
Still, it wasn't all harsh words aimed at Boyle. Paige says that "when I started, YouTube didn't exist but even then with 15 years of experience prior to my success with Evita it was difficult, so I admire the way she handled her sudden success."

Bitter, bitter! This sounds exactly like the Etta James/Beyonce situation. An old has been showing her true colors because someone else/new sang better than, got more exposure from your (tired/over played) song to begin with. Ms. Paige needs to go crawl back under the rock from which she came!

This woman spews piss and vinegar when she should be very gracious for the publicity she is getting by virtue of Susan. Her voice isn't even that great, which is why she isn't famous, and she certainly shouldn't be so full of herself. Somebody hand her some humble pie, and fast.

I never heard of Elaine Paige until Susan Boyle mentioned her on Britain's Got Talent. When I finally did hear of Elaine Paige, I looked her up on YouTube, and appreciated her great talent (which I think is superior to Boyle's).
I'm always wary of articles like this one, because it gives parts of quotes and can be taken out of context.
But of course, jealousy can always be a factor...Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra said some mean stuff when Elvis first came out.

I understand what she meant, she is not talking about ms boyles voice or talent, she was asked if she took pride in her. Do you take more pride in someone who goes to work each day at the steel mill and over 30 years buys a house or the guy who wins the lottery and buys it the next day. The music industry is tough and success is earned through hard work and heartbreak for sometimes decades. Ms Boyle won the lottery. Good for her, I love her voice, but pride?? that is another matter.

dsanner.......Susan DID work hard at her craft. She took voice lessons for years, and what a lot of people don't know is that she went to acting school and is qualified to teach it.
She sang for years.
She didn't wake up one morning and decide to audition for BGT.
I think Elaine Page needs to apologize. I think Susan Boyle has a beautiful voice and it sounds like Elaine Page is jealous of Susan's success. Susan should have sung solo. Keep your chin up Susan everybody loves you.

I don't think Elaine meant to be brash. She's a huge star in the UK for those who don't know. She is correct though. Until programs like this and the internet, people are now household names quicker than ever, unlike the way she and many other talented people found their fame. I love Susan and have her cd. I hope she holds on but feel she just isn't cut out for this kind of attention. Look at the Idol winners who have dropped off the radar, and thankfully so! Elaine has stood the test of time and I hope Susan does as well. Now if we could just get rid of the pants on the ground guy.

I too am concerned for Susan Boyle. I think she has a natural talent that needs no enhancement from recording studios. But from some of the accounts I've read, Susan may not be able to handle her sudden fame. Seems she has a temper, goes into a rage and can't control what she says. I hope the accounts are wrong and if they are not, she needs to get some help.

Is Ms. Paige the Kayne West of the vocal world? Player Hater!! Susan Boyle never had a chance before the reality show world because CEO's thought she wasn't marketable. Haven't we grown up from middle school aged tactics about looks and status? Get over yourself Ms.Paige. There are many talented people out there that have never been discovered because people won't give them the time of day . Good for Ms. Boyle she caught a break from everyday people. Thats just pure jealousy....this is Elaine Paiges way of getting back into the spotlight..( I never heard of her before this...so hence she is not so well known if people on here are saying the same thing).she will be in and out like a sneeze....no cares what you have to say Elaine.....Susan Boyle rocks and deserves every ounce of success and fame she gets!!

When God blesses one with talent the opportunity to present that talent to the world, be happy and enjoy. Elaine, jealousy is an ugly face to wear, by someone like yourself. Be honored by Susan, instead of diehonoring yourself by being so petty and envious!!!
