Just hours after Jay Leno aired his late-night laundry to Oprah Winfrey and insisted he felt "sucker punched" by Jimmy Kimmel, the comedian delivered a sharp monologue defending his recent appearance on 'The Jay Leno Show' in which he let loose about shakeups at NBC.
"[Leno] went on Oprah and rats me out," Kimmel said during his 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' monologue. "That's a sucker-punch right there. You don't go to Oprah and say that. He's a tattle-tale."
Kimmel's monologue was in response to Leno saying he was upset about Kimmel's remarks about the late-night debacle and ultimately blaming him for ousting Conan O'Brien. Leno told Oprah he was taken aback by the comments but decided not to edit them out of his show. "I said, 'No. Put it out there. I walked into it.'"
Kimmel said that he believed his interview with Leno would focus on the late-night wars. Instead, he said, in a pre-interview with Leno's producer, "the questions were like, 'What's your junk food weakness?'" According to Kimmel, the producer said there had been "a lot of talk" about NBC's late-night drama, "and we don't want to beat it to death."
"I figured I'd start in, he'd get into it and we'd mix it up," Kimmel said. "You know, at one time [Leno] was a comedian. But he didn't do that. He stood there and he just kind of read through the questions like a robot."
By the end of Kimmel's monologue, he had the last laugh adding, "Watch out Oprah. Don't think he won't take your show next."

Hey, Kimmel, you definitely sucker-punched Jay - I was astonished when I saw that show, wondering why you were attacking him. At least acknowledge that your approach wasn't what was expected or discussed with the producers. Take some personal responsibility here. You took the shot, pay the price.
Kimmel was great on Leno's show. I was happy to see someone have the guts to confront Jay directly when given the chance. I don't think Kimmel said anything wrong... Jay is a wheasel.
GOOD FOR YOU JIMMY KIMMEL! LENO DESERVES TO BE CALLED OUT FOR STABBING CONAN IN THE BACK. HE HAD HIS YEARS AT LATE NIGHT. HE COULD HAD JUST SAID NO TO THE JOB, HE ALREADY HAD HIS TURN, AND WALKED AWAY. HE'S A SELFISH IDIOT!!!!! GLAD YOU HAD THE BALLS JIMMY! BY THE WAY, HE WAS SO CALLED "FRIENDS" WITH LETTERMAN WHEN HE DID THE SAME THING TO LETTERMAN WITH THE TONIGHT SHOW YEARS AGO PEOPLE!! LETTERMAN WAS PROMISED THE JOB AND THAN LENO WENT BEHIND HIS BACK AND TOOK IT WHEN THEY WERE "FRIENDS". HELLO!! BUSINES BS!!!!!
No, not everyone loves Jay, heck, a lot of people don't even like him -- he's not funny - he's malicious, he steals Letterman's segments and he's a crybaby.
Why is it that everyone is saying that Jay is stealing Conan's Show? What about 7 months ago when Conan stole the Tonight Show from Jay? Jay was kicking Letterman's butt in the ratings since 1995. And even while NBC's ratings were crap and Letterman had those strong lead-ins like the 3 CSI's, NCSI and the like, Jay was still winning the ratings. Conan gets there and lost more than 50% of the audience that Leno had built. It wasn't broke, so why did NBC think they needed to tinker with it. Oh, and by the way, Jimmy Fallon is unwatchable.
OK... NEWS FLASH!! NBC tells Jay, "In 5 years, we're giving your show to Conan." Conan had threatened to walk if NBC didn't give him the Tonight Show. So, that's how Conan maneuvered to get the Tonight Show away from Jay. And then he couldn't deliver the ratings when he got the show.
NBC stole the show from Jay. They were afraid of losing Conan 5 years ago and forced Jay to announce his retirement from the Tonight Show. Neither Conan nor Jay OWN the Tonight Show. It belongs to NBC. It really doesn't matter who you like best; Jay's late night numbers far exceed Conan's and those added numbers bring added revenue dollars to the network. This is just television people. When your numbers go down, you get the boot no matter how good your show is. Conan is certainly not the first talented person to get his walking papers from the network. That's the way it goes. I cannot believe people are so emotionally involved in this issue. You have HUNDREDS of channels to choose from. Conan will find a new venue and will continue to make lots of money.
This is actually in reply to "me." Actually NBC told Jay they were giving his show to Conan at the end of the current contract. It was suggested that Jay announce his retirement. It was also NBC's decision to return Jay to the Tonight show. And for the record, I don't care who is doing the Tonight show. I hardly ever watched it once Johnny was gone.

Kimmel, Jay will be here when you're reduced to blowing sailors at the bus stop in San Diego. You are a tool.
I agree. I couldn't beleive Kimmel. But consider the source.

How did Conan steal the Tonight Show from Jay? Jay had said he would be retiring so NBC could give the show over to Conan.
