Talk of the Town Minus Tom: Solo Katie Holmes Is All Smiles at Sundance

Move over, Amy Adams, America's former girl-next-door is back in action. A newly refreshed Katie Holmes was spotted at the Sundance Film Festival looking healthy and happy while attending a private party for her film, 'The Extra Man'. Husband Tom Cruise was nowhere to be seen at her party.

Mrs. Tom Cruise is working double duty at the festival. In addition to 'Extra,' she's been receiving much-needed buzz her role in 'The Romantics'.

That film, directed by indie producer Galt Niederhoffer, stars Holmes as a young woman who finds herself in a state of emotional turmoil while attending the wedding of a former flame. It doesn't seem as though life is imitating art, though -- at the party for The Extra Man, insiders reported to Hollywood Life that a glowing Holmes shed her Stepford-wife image for the evening, gushing to guests about her husband and children and even sipping cocktails.

Hollywood Life editor Bonnie Fuller says of the actress, "It's great for Katie to step out of the very long shadow of her husband. Professionally, it allows both Hollywood directors AND her fans, to see that she's a talented, professional woman that they can relate to. Too often she's portrayed as a zombie, Scientologist wife, when in reality we hear from multiple sources that she's a very warm, friendly and outgoing woman, who loves her career, her family - including her stepchildren, and Tom!" Buzz on Holmes' performance has been strong. The LA Times writes: Most of the time, Holmes seems to be taking on parts that don't bring out her best and in which she doesn't even seem particularly engaged ... But (her) character in "Romantics" ... is a perfect vehicle for her skills, and actually gives the actress a chance to showcase much of what distinguished her on "Dawson's Creek."

Two words.... Nichole Kidman. He thought he could control her and that didn't work. She even had to leave her children mostly with him in order to escape him.
Katie Holmes is so young, she was so enthralled with him and he swept her off her young feet. I don't think she has the strength to leave him. Not to mention she would have to leave Suri and Suri is way too young to even consider doing that. She's stuck with him, his manipulative ways and his Scientology.... at least for a good ten years.

People need to get a life. Can a celebrity go out in public without there spouse always attached to them like a hood ornament; without the public assuming their marriage is in trouble. Journalists need to define what journalism is truly about and stop report gossip and trash like news and the public as well. Everyone needs to allow a celebrity an opportunity to have their own life. Their job is to entertain us, that's as far as everyone's involvement in their personal lives. No wonder Brittany Spears had a breakdown, not being able to live your live can be very damaging spiritually.

It's the Amish knit cap and muffler she's wearing that makes her look ugly... Look, let's face it, she was a total nobody on the little screen, & Tom's interest in her, in someone young enough to be his child practically, is what elevated her to anyone's interest at all... That being said, I can't stand Tom the control freak Cruise, OR his simpering wife. The one he cut off from her family, the one he made leave her Catholic faith and do the Scientology thing instead... And so that makes her every bit the freak he is... She is NOT her own person, she's a Victoria Beckham wannabe!

As long as Katie is married to that card carrying certifiable scientologist kook, she will never be anything but the wife of a weirdo. The fact that she goes along with it and all its lunacy shows she does not have the ability to think. One night out means nothing - she still goes home to the tin cans and inner thetans.
