Stevie Nicks Sings Backup for Taylor Swift at Grammy Awards

After much speculation, Taylor Swift was joined by Fleetwood Mac's leading lady Stevie Nicks at the 2010 Grammy Awards. Swift opened her performance with 'Today Was a Fairytale' and then announced, "It's a fairly tale and an honor to share the stage with Stevie Nicks." Both women sang Fleetwood Mac's 'Rhiannon,' and then Swift then grabbed her guitar to sing her hit 'You Belong With Me.' Nicks stood back, tapping her tambourine and to share singing duties with the young artist.

Taylor Swift, who was second to Beyonce in Grammy nominations with eight nods, won three early awards, including best country album. Though the 20-year-old has won just about every award imaginable over the past year for her best-selling CD "Fearless," she was wide-eyed and emotional when she accepted her trophy for the country album.

"I just keep thinking back to when you're in second grade and you sing in the talent show for the first time and people joke around and say, 'Maybe we'll see you at the Grammys some day.' But that just seems like an impossible dream," she said. "I just feel like I'm standing here accepting an impossible dream."

This proves how the sucky music industry is catering to Taylor Swift just because she was made mega popular by obsessive tweens. TAYLOR SWIFT is not quality, her voice is shrilling here. She's just a contrived image with a bland persona who writes juvenile songs (she's 20 and still sings about fairytales and HIGH school??) with mediocre singing abilities, made into a mega star. Years from now, she WILL be insignificant. She is to music what Stephanie Meyer is to literature.

I really have to say that I think Taylor Swift winning FOUR Grammys has just lowered the bar quite a bit for the Grammy awards. Seeing her flounder up there on stage, and make a mockery of herself and Stevie Nicks in the process was really painful for me to watch. You think about all the legendary artists who've won Grammys in the past. Well, now they might as well toss them in the garbage. They mean nothing... Someone help me out... has no one told this girl she can't sing? Does she refuse to embrace pitch correction on stage? Does she NOT have a vocal coach? Is she lazy? Being a musician and singer myself, I just cannot understand a how a girl who's been at this for 4-5 years fails to improve in the least! It's one thing to be really bad at FIRST, then improve. But she's not made any progress with those atrocious vocals! Also, people try to make excuses for her being young... Is 20 years old really young? The Jackson 5 were all under 16 when they were at the height of success! And that's just one example. If Taylor Swift tried out for American Idol today, she'd be eliminated in the first round. Yet, they give this girl FOUR Grammys? I just don't get it! This is a new low for the music industry. I think I understand what Tool's lead singer Maynard James Keenan meant now when he said this: "I think the Grammys are nothing more than some gigantic promotional machine for the music industry. They cater to a low intellect and they feed the masses. They don't honor the arts or the artist for what he created. It's the music business celebrating itself. That's basically what it's all about." I'll never watch the Grammys again. Thank you Taylor Swift. You make Miley Cyrus look like Janis Joplin.

The guy playing the banjo is Butch Walker and Taylor did his cover version of You Belong With Me. I know its the Grammys and all but I can't believe Taylor didn't even acknowledge Butch!!!

Here is the million dollar question??? Does Taylor Swift ever watch back her performances and if so what does she think? Does she ever read anything the fans write, because at least 90% are totally against her singing ever again, in public live or otherwise. 50% say she is a good song writer, but if you listen to the melodies of all of her songs, they all sound the same. All are written about young girls, first boyfriends and first kisses. Also does her Mom and Dad lie to her about her ability to sing. Everyone is laughing at your daughter about her ability to carry a tune, maybe you need to hire a vocal coach. Also someone said she is a great musician, doubt it, she only plays rhythm guitar, not hard to do. So we have a flat singer, kiddie song writer, simple musician woooooo and she has won how many grammys?? I was in a country band for 9 years, faked being a good keyboard player, even faked being a little bit of a singer, but I always knew I wasn't very good, even though the bar full of drunks told me I was, so you cannot tell me this girl doesn't really know she is NOT good. Believe ME you know, really YOU DO KNOW!!

I second all of that. Taylor Swift was the only girl who *couldn't* sing at the Grammys. Perhaps that was the real reason she met the audience with wide eyes and a gaping mouth every time she won. She was thinking "Oh my gosh, I can't believe all these people actually fell for it!" When all those producers were standing behind her to accept the final award for the night, they must have been thinking "See how bad-ass we are? You just heard her sing live...imagine what we had to go through to get her to sound good on the album!"

Beyonce totally killed it that night. And while I don't like the timbre of Lady GaGa's voice (it sounds like she's just speaking rather than singing), she was still on pitch and had soul. And Pink was still able to sing after spinning around to the point where *I* was about to puke. Kudos to them. Boo for Taylor.

I don't blame anyone but the directors who paired up Taylor and Stevie, Did they not sense a problem during rehersals? Face it, none of Swift;s lyrics had to be bleeped. She appeals to the parents because of the clean cut messages of her songs and videos. The voting was among the 12000 members of the Grammys, and does anyone know the tally? I wonder how Stevie reacted to this? she did not look pleased.

I felt like I was watching bad karaoke in a bar ON TAYLORS PART. WHY does she keep winning these awards!? She is HORRIBLE and ANNOYING. Stevie is one of my all time favorites. She is a legend. She should have pulled a diva move and walked off stage because I would have. I wouldn't have let Taylor butcher my song like that and I would feel insulted being Taylor's childhood icon and then having her butcher my song if it were me. UGHHH

Stevie Nicks is still as beautiful and talented as ever. Taylor Swift CANNOT SING, SO UNTALENTED!!!!!!! I'm the same age as Taylor and I do not think that she should even be allowed to do Kareoke to Rhiannon.

Dont blame Taylor...Blame Scott Borchetta and Big Machine Records for giving a tone-deaf 15 year old a record deal...Blame Liz Rose for writing 95% of her songs...Blame Record producer, Nathan Chapman for using Auto-Tune to correct almost every single note on Taylor's records.. Blame our culture for telling us, if your pretty you dont need talent....But mostly blame us for allowing this "destorted" thing we call the "Music Industry" for selling us this load of "Horse Crap"...If we continue to fall for all this "Hype", we deserve these kinds of performances....

My heart was breaking when I saw Taylor Swift sing with the legendary Stevie Nicks. I'm a huge Stevie Nicks fan and that just wasn't fair for her to be singing back up to the not worthy Swift.

I am in total agreement with the people that feel that Taylor Swift can't sing. She has a great agent and marketing crew, but she is for pre-teen girls and that's about it. She has no more talent as a singer than any other teenie bopper singing in the shower. For her to be getting all these awards just shows you the power of good marketing.

But back to the true issue at hand. Stevie Nicks is and always was an incredible talent. Swift in true Ethel Merman style (now that's a blast from the past) tried to overpower her with arm movements and a voice that just wasn't making it. It was truly painful to watch.

WHAT A HORRIBLE DUET? THEIR VOICES COULDN'T BLEND IF THEY WERE IN A BLENDER. TAYLOR SWIFT MIGHT BE GREAT BUT THAT NIGHT SHE WAS FLAT IN MORE THAN ONE WAY. ON THE OTHER HAND STEVIE NICKS SHOWED THAT THE 'OLD PONY' COULD STILL CARRY THE TUNE.
