Those tuning in for Michael Buble's debut performance on 'Saturday Night Live' this past weekend were treated not only to Buble's vocal talents, but the Canadian crooner brought along New York-based soul revivalist Sharon Jones to help him out on 'Baby (You've Got What It Takes).' The song appears on Buble's latest release, 'Crazy Love,' and although he's been doing a hefty amount of television appearances lately, he tells PopEater that he'd been saving Jones for a special occasion. "I'd saved this because I wanted to keep the trick up our sleeve," Buble says. "I don't know how else to say that. We'd done a bunch of other shows but thought that 'Saturday Night Live' was the biggest stage. You're always nervous, so it's nice to have someone to lean on like that."
Indeed, those familiar with Jones know that she has a personality that takes over the stage. Buble seemed to revel in Jones's charisma, which is something he noticed immediately when they got together in the studio. "She was irreverent, funny and charming, and put that into a package where the girl can sing the hell out of a phone book; it was easy and obvious," he says. "We hit it off and it was a blast. I don't remember a lot of the recording because we had scotch and whatever else, but it was a blast."
