Rip Torn Mistook Bank for His Home, Says Lawyer

Rip Torn was so intoxicated last Friday night that he believed he was in his own home when he was
arrested brandishing a loaded revolver at a local bank, the actor's lawyer said Monday. "Obviously, he wasn't there intending to commit a crime," A. Thomas Waterfall told a judge at Torn's arraignment hearing in Superior Court in Bantam, Connecticut.

According to an arrest report, police responded to an alarm at the Litchfield Bancorp in Salisbury around 9:45 p.m. Friday and found Torn inside "walking around in the lobby of the teller area." He had shattered a window to get into the bank and a pair of boots was found lying on the floor. Torn was acting "highly intoxicated," sources tell
TMZ.
He has been charged with criminal trespass, criminal mischief, carrying a weapon without a permit and burglary and has posted $100,000 bond. His next court date was set for Feb. 17 in Litchfield.
Waterfall told reporters that Torn will enter a rehab facility in New York as early as Tuesday.
Torn, who turns 79 on Saturday, made his first court appearance shortly before 10:30 a.m., the
Hartford Courant reports, where he and three other men sat shackled together on a bench and were read their rights before being led back to a holding area.
Torn, whose real first name is Elmore, has a history of alcohol abuse and was sentenced last year to probation in Connecticut for driving drunk. He agreed to enter an alcohol education program, but it's unclear if he attended. He also has two previous drunken driving arrests in New York and is responsible for one of the most notorious celebrity mug shots in history.
The actor's acting career has not slowed down in light of his legal problems. Torn regularly appears on NBC's '30 Rock' and he had prominent roles in huge films such as 'Dodgeball' and 'Bee Movie.' His distinct voice is in high demand for animated films, like this year's 'Cat Tale.'

When the truth finally emerges, the police will discover that Mr. Torn is actually a hero. The facts are that while passing by the bank, Mr. Torn saw the break-in and even though highly intoxicated, leaped into action to disarmed and chase off the "real" bank robbers, an evil alien duo from the planet Quark. As they were escaping in their Hoveround spacecraft, the alien crooks managed to zap Mr. Torn with a stun ray, which rendered him unconscious.
In a related story, actor Will Smith announced plans to turn Mr. Torn's story into a movie, Men in Black III.

Hell, as much as these damn celebrities and sorry ass athletes are OVERpaid, they might as well live in a f'ing bank. This is just one more sorry bald headed bastard who needs to be given the axe.
Yea, that's right, I'm gay.
That is hilarious!!!!
Yeah maybe he'll have room for a lawyer that defends him.
that was a good one.bet Mr. Rip torn and his lawyer will use that one and probably get off...just like all of them
Awwwww I thought he was a Nice Guy !
Aw, let the old drunk go. He is a great actor and very funny person. Geez he is 79 years old and he didn't do any damage. Give him probation for a month and a bottle of Jack Daniels. The young celebrities screw up a whole lot more and end up with a hand slap.

Yea Steve, I bet you would feel the same if he got his bottle as you suggest, got drunk, drove, and killed someone close to you. Brilliant suggestion! The guy's obviously got a drinking problem.
How did he manage to get into the bank in the first place? And intoxicated! He's tough.

Read the article DA!
Broke a window.
Poor Don Geiss! The strain of being an NBC executive finally got to him. It's a good thing that bank got in his way or he may have done himself (or his liver) in.

You gotta wonder about the poop you read in these blogs...they're not very well written and I fear some of the info suspect, as with Tawny Kitaen.

What a piece of trash. He thought he was home so he had a loaded gun and broke a window in a bank. Yeah right. He needs to spend the rest of his life in jail. Just like if i did something like that i would be gone. And i never even had so much as a DUI. Man when are the rich pieces of S*** going to get what the rest of us would get.

I can understand him thinking the bank was his house. I had a friend tell me one time that her husband was always using the closet for the bathroom when he was intoxiated..LOL Drunk people are not supposed to make since. That is why they get drunk.
Yea Jeff !! Why wasn't he charged with attempted bank robbery and thrown in jail like rest of us would have been ????
