Did Taylor Swift Deserve Album of the Year Grammy? PopEater Readers Are Split

At the Grammys, John Legend read out Taylor Swift's 'Fearless' while presenting the album of the year award.

Swift beat out favorites 'The Fame' by Lady Gaga and Beyonce's 'I Am ... Sasha Fierce' for the night's big prize. Now, we don't think she necessarily deserved the award. We even go as far as saying that she won because of Kanye West. His highjacking of her VMA speech may have been the best thing that ever happen to the country singer.

But we wanted to know what you thought. So we asked -- did she deserve the album of the year? Well, over 29K voted and 50 percent of people didn't think her album was worthy.

Our second question -- do you think the decision to honor 'Fearless' as the album of the year had anything to do with Kanye's VMA outburst? -- was met with a similar reaction. Over 25K votes were cast, and half of those who answered said no, and the other half said yes.

This was a sad night for MUSIC. They gave a silly child who can not sing the biggest award of the night.

I wanted beyonce to win, but if Lady or any one else won i would have been fine with it because of the TALENT.

Taylor's vocals weren't perfect during the Grammys, but at least she wasn't screaming like some of the other performers. Personally, I like the Elton John/Gaga duet and Dave Matthews. At least they were singing.

The Grammy Awards are about music, it's not a singing contest. True, Taylor is lacking in raw vocal strength, but she has a good album full of songs she WROTE. Can Beyonce say that? I don't think so. In my opinion, it should have been Gaga, as she both writes incredible music and has an amazing, strong voice (both recorded and live), but people need to keep in mind that this shouldn't be about Taylor's voice in performances. It's about her album, and she sounds just fine there.

Millions of people can sing, but if you don't take park in the creative process, you're just a puppet.

Taylor Swift may have some talent, but the Grammy she received was more about a new little blonde "country girl" and letting her win because she is perceived as this innocent sweet little thing who was bullied by "big bad Kanye". As far as I am concerned, Kanye was passionate about his music and saw her for what she is.... a so-so performer with songs that sound like they have all been done before. Her music lacks originality, and she should send Kanye a check for all the publicity she has gotten from him. And also by the way, her little innocent sweet little young thing act is old. I have seen here in action, and she is a more shrewd business woman than Madonna, she is certainly not the shrinking flower that she tries to pretend to be.

Believe me when I say, I am NOT a country fan at all....I've heard Taylor's songs but don't know a word of them. But are we forgetting that she had the highest selling album of 2009....this girl did her thing!!!! I am proud of Taylor and Beyonce walked away with six so I'm pretty sure she is not disappointed!!!!

I originally that Lady Gaga should have won as well,
but after seeing Taylor with Stevie Nicks, I thought that
she was good and came off as real. She didn't have all those theatrics like Lady Gaga did and Beyonce gave one of the most bizarre performances I have ever seen pn the Grammys.
I don't know why she was singing Alanis Morrisette and not "Halo". Taylor is terrific and very well-deserving of
Album of the Year.

For the longest time I thought I was the only person who didn't think Swift could sing. I am very happy to find someone else out there put it into print.

I have been a fan ever since her first single..back when no one really knew her.. but she CANNOT sing! Her albums and videos are great, but live is when you can really tell she cannot sing. She has risen too fast and it is just like the media to tear her down. so between that and the fact that she really can't sing... she won't be around long as the chart topper singer, but her songs will last a while! She's a great writer!

Taylor did deserve the award for album of the year. Even with all the theatrics there were some performers last night who were still off key. And as for Kanye am I mistaken or was Taylor already getting an award when he was so rude. How did he help her? I was proud of how she performed and conducted herself that night.
