A Swift Backlash: Will Taylor's Album of the Year Grammy Hurt Her?

Taylor Swift has been the music industry's golden girl ever since Kanye West jumped on the stage at the VMAs and interrupted her win for best female video. (And maybe even before.)

But will her incredible run atop of everyone's lists end soon? Last night at the Grammys, Swift took home the album of the year Grammy, surprisingly beating out Lady Gaga and Beyonce. And Swift's 'Fearless' really pales in comparison to Gaga's 'The Fame' and Beyonce's 'I Am ... Sasha Fierce.'

Swift prides herself as being a country princess who writes all of her songs and plays the instruments to accompany them. (Kudos for that is surely deserved.) But when her album beats out those more deserving, and her live performances are clearly lacking, we wonder what will happen next.

Since Kanyegate, everyone's been cheering her on. But will that end now that she's won awards she may or may not deserve?

Upon accepting album of the year, Swift didn't even thank the other nominees, as is standard in most speeches, she just rambled on about how much the award meant to her -- a move that could further condemn her in the industry's eyes.

It seems as if our readers have already turned on her. More than a few Facebook commenters were not happy about her triumphs..

"This is a sympathy-win for all the drama created by Kanye. I guess if there are any other struggling artists who want to win, they know who to call!" Stephenie N. wrote.

Adding to her undeserved bulging trophy case is the fact that Swift has yet to wow us with her live performances. She seemed terribly nervous and her voice wobbly at the Grammys when she sang with Stevie Nicks on 'Rhiannon' and 'You Belong With Me.' Listen

Next to Nicks, Swift looked and sounded like a terrified kitten who wandered up on the stage. And watching Lady Gaga and Beyonce dominate vocally reinforces Swift's own shortcomings.

PopEater fans agree. "As much as I love Taylor Swift...she continues to be HORRIBLE live! No power in her voice, she misses all the high notes, ugh...its embarassing [sic] watching Taylor win ALL these awards, only to see her perform terribly! And really Stevie?! You lowered yourself to sing BACK UP for that tripe? You're so much better than that..." JosieGrosie commented.

But you can't just chalk that up to nerves on a big night, because other times she's been just as bad. Her 'SNL' performances weren't up to par. Listen

Maybe you could have blamed her iffy VMAs showing on Kanye's mic-stealing, but considering her track record, we won't let her off the hook for this one. Listen

A string of more bad live performances coupled with big award achievements may hurt Swift in the long run. You can only ride the Kanye-train for so long, Taylor.

I thought I was the only one that thought Taylor Swift was a joke. I am a horrible singer and she matches me. How she gets all this praise is beyond me. She is ridiculous. Hopefully, it is short lived.

I agree with you as well.. She dosen't have the greatest vocal range but being a teenage, her songs ARE insperational. She may not be the best singer but she has somewhat of raw talent that could probably be improved by a teacher.

Maybe you should do your research. Fearless outsold both “Sasha Fierce” and “The Fame” by MILLIONS! It was the #1 selling album in 2009. And has maintained a strong showing on the charts the entire year. EVEN BEFOR KANYE MADE AN ASS OUT OF HIMSELF. She won. She deserved it. Get over it.

The Billboard awards are based on sales, not the Grammy's awards. The Grammy's are supposed to be based on talent, which in the singing department Taylor Swift is CLEARLY lacking. Just because she sold the most albums doesn't mean she is more talented than Beyonce or Lady Gaga (and I can't stand her) but her performance with Elton John was great and she is a hell of a singer.

Actually it’s not talent its popularity. Taylor got the vote. Stop crying about it. To each his own about her singing. But I doubt a 20 year old who has sold over 10 million records can’t sing. I know I don’t go out and buy albums from crappy artists. Sales don’t lie.

Veronica, I don't see how Kanye made an ass out of her. He interupted her award accepatance. An award she deserved. She was a class act. And FYI, she had already outsold B and Lady Gaga before that even happened. So what if the Grammy's aren't based on sales. At least she can sell a whole album instead of just digital tracks and singles.

I dont have to do research to know what I hear when I listen to her sing. She is popular cause she is young and prety and is appealing to that age bracket that buys the records which accounts for the amount of sales she racks up. But this ASS still says she cannot sing a note.

My only guess is that you must be about 13 and think the Jonas Brothers are really talented as well. Taylor Swift CANNOT sing!!! It is absolutely torturous to watch any of her performances. It is amazing what they can do in the studio to make people sound good. Think about it, if you can't sing live, you can't sing period!!!!

Well, I am a major label producer and I run an indie label, she can't hit a note to save her life. The Grammy's won't even consider you for the awards she received if you are not in the charts, that's a fact. She writes good songs for her age and appeals to her demographic. The rest is just an embarrassment and insult to artist that "really" know their craft. It's no wonder the music Industry is dying, and not fast enough apparently.

for "do your research" I don't give a rat's patootie how many albums she's sold, the girl can't sing!!! Jessica Simpson sold albums too and she can't sing. There are a bunch of people out there selling albums left and right that can't sing. It's called marketing!!! they have someone out there pushing their stuff and it matters not if they have talent, which many don't!! I saw Taylor on a Christmas show singing Silent Night. Since her vocal range is so small they had to re-write the melody so she could sing the words. If I hadn't heard the lyrics I'd have never known she was singing Silent Night. It was pathetic!!!

Only young teens like this girl. They like the sweet bubble gum voice, but she cannot sing like Beyonce or Lady Gaga. That was a sham to have her beat out true talent.
