2010 Oscar Nominations Announced: 'Avatar,' 'The Hurt Locker' Lead
By PopEater Staff Posted Feb 2nd 2010 08:39AM
The 2010 Oscars nominations were announced this morning, and sci-fi shoo-in 'Avatar' and the war-on-terror thriller 'The Hurt Locker' lead the Academy Awards with nine nominations each including Best Picture. Other nominees in the best picture category include: 'Blind Side,' 'District 9,' 'An Education,' 'Inglorious Basterds,' 'Precious,' 'A Serious Man,' 'Up' and 'Up in the Air.' The 82nd Oscars will be presented March 7 in a ceremony airing on ABC from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre. Get more details on major snubs and surprises on Moviefone.com and see the full list of nominees.

This year, the Best picture category features 10 best-picture nominees instead of the usual five because Academy officials want more variety.
'Up In The Air' also took in several nominations as well, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (George Clooney) and Best Supporting Actress (Anna Kendrick.)
Top acting nominees include the four stars who have dominated early awards shows: Sandra Bullock for 'The Blind Side,' Jeff Bridges for 'Crazy Heart' and supporting performers Mo'Nique 'Precious' and Christoph Waltz for 'Inglourious Basterds.'

I will watch the awards only to see if Sandra Bullock wins. I may not be eye to eye with her politically, but love her work in The Blind Side. She rocked the house with that one, in fact, the movie was the best I've seen in a very long time.

THE BLIND SIDE earning a BEST PIC nom was the biggest surprise. Movie-goers loved it, but critics did not.
Julianne Moore and (500) Days of Summer were the biggest snubs in my opinion.
PLEASE TAKE THE OSCAR POLL -- which film most deserves to win best picture? Reach poll via link on my Twitter: Entertainment2u
thanks for voting!

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Inglorious B!!! That was a great movie...So well done...LOVED Brad and all the guys in it! WISH the war would have ended like that for sure!! Great pic!!
Blind side..great story..surprised at the nod. Avatar...not a surprise and Precious isn't surprising either. Gonna be great!~

Inglorious B is the most overrated P.O.S. Tarantino is the biggest thief and the most unoriginal film maker of all time, yet he continues to be rewarded. He is proof there is no real talent in hollywood, just B.S. political agendas.
Just another liberal movie, anti capitalist messages scream out to the minds of our kids. Have you ever noticed only the rich in Hollywood want socialism?

Well, that was a bit of typically incoherent teabagger nonsense.
No 500 Days of Summer or The Hangover and you've got 10 best picture nominees....you have got to be kidding....losers!

Go Meryl!! You ruled as Julia Child!!! It's been way too long since you won an Oscar.

If you havent seen The Hurt Locker than you are missing out on a very well made movie. I dont care if you like war movies or not. There is a reason why so many are talking about it.

I have to respectfully disagree with you. I thought the Hurt Locker was one of the most boring movies I had ever seen. (if you can even call it a movie. It was more like a history lesson about the war in Iraq). So much for all you people out there claiming Hollywood only makes liberal movies. I thought The Blind Side was the most heart warming movie I had seen in ages. I am happy to see Sandra Bullock winning so many awards for this movie.
I thought that "The Hurt Locker" was very tedious. I saw it before any of the critical acclaim and it was my opinion that the movie was set up to make the viewers feel the tedium of danger, the boredom of everyday existance in the war in Iraq, and how the tedium can be puncuated only by sudden death.
"In the Loop" was the best war movie I saw this year.
The oscars have gotten incredibly boring... the only true artist nominated is Streep. Avatar is no more than hyped techno-fobia. Just not worth the time or the 'watch'.

WHO GIVES A RATS BEHIND ABOUT THIS TOILET WASTE IN HOLLYWOOD,ITS ALL TRASH ANY MORE AND A WASTE OF TIME

Mike - You have not seen most of the nominated movies because they are true stories and for once Hollywood has done itself proud. So watch the movies before you just ASSUME they are no good. You know the definition of assume don't you?
Every time I throw out the movie title "The Hurt Locker", the response is always, 'What? Never heard of it'. Exactly. Another "Slumdog Millionaire".

Opinions...Everyone has one....I liked the movie...I thought it was well done. I like QT...You don't...good for you...Can't please everyone...

Inglorious b. sucked big time and The Hurt Locker was good, not great. Best picture should go to Crazy Heart.

The hurt locker sucked. How is it being recognized for anything?

WELL I HAVE TO SAY THAT I THINK HISTORY IS GOING TO REOEAT ITSELF JUST LIKE IT DID THE YEAR THAT "DANCES WITH WOLVES"SWEPT THE OSCARS. I THINK "AVATAR IS GOING TO KICK ASS AND WIN BEST PICTURE. LOOK AT THE POLL, ITS 41% AND THE REST ARE LEFT IN THE DUST. "HURT LOCKER" WAS BETTER THAN I THOUGHT AND I WOULD HAVE TO BELIEVE THAT IF BIGALOE WINS BEST DIRECTOR IT WILL BE BECAUSE CAMERON TOLD THEM TO GIVE HER THE AWARD TO GET HER CAREER GOING AGAIN. AGAIN GUYS, THE OSCARS IS JUST ABOUT POLITICS AND HAS BEEN FOR A LONG TIME NOW. THE BLIND SIDE WHICH WAS HEART WARMING AND ALL THAT IS A BIG SUPRISE TO ME FOR EVEN BEING IN THE RUNNING FOR TOP MOVIE BUT HEY , THIS IS ABOUT MONEY AND NOTHING MORE. IT BROUGHT IN A VERY SUPRISING 200 PLUS MILLION AND IS STILL EARNING NOW. TO ME SLUMDOG MILLIONARE WAS JUST A WAY TOO MUCH HYPED FILM OUT OF NOWHERE AND IT SUCKED. WHY IT WON AN OSCAR FOR BEST MOVIE IS BEYOND ME AND JUST ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE INEXPLICABLE PARADOXES IN LIFE THAT ARE CREATED BY DUMBASSES IN CHARGE. AGAIN AND AS FOR ANOTHER PIECE OF GARBAGE, WHY IS DISTRICT 9 EVEN BEING CONSIDERED? THAT MOVIE WAS ONE OF THE MOST OVERHYPED PIECE OF POLITICAL BORING TRASH THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. WHY? WHY? WHY? IS IT BECAUSE JACKSONS NAME IS ATTACHED TO IT? REDICULOUS. WAY TOO MANY SNUBS THIS YEAR. I HAVEN'T WATCHED THE OSCARS SINCE HALEY BERRY WON BEST ACTRESS FOR THAT PIECE OF TRASH MOVIE "MONSTERS BALL". POLITICAL B.S. ALL THE WAY. WAY TOO MANY BETTER MOVIES OUT THERE THAT YEAR AND BETTER ACTING PERFORMANCES BY WOMEN TO EVEN JUSTIFY THAT AWARD FOR BERRY. ANYWAY IF ANYONE IS REALLY SMART THEY WILL BE LIKE ME AND A LOT OF OTHERS ACORDING TO THE POLL AND JUST READ THE POLITICAL RESULTS IN THE PAPER AND PASS ON THE "SHOW". HAVE A NICE DAY DAY EVERYONE.

number 1 avatar is the highest grossing movie out of all of these so theres a good chance that the people who voted didnt see the other movies so they just voted for avatar
number 2 i doubt any of the people who voted in this poll are members of the academy so who cares what they think. they dont pick who wins
