2010 Oscar Nominations Announced: 'Avatar,' 'The Hurt Locker' Lead
By PopEater Staff Posted Feb 2nd 2010 08:39AM
The 2010 Oscars nominations were announced this morning, and sci-fi shoo-in 'Avatar' and the war-on-terror thriller 'The Hurt Locker' lead the Academy Awards with nine nominations each including Best Picture. Other nominees in the best picture category include: 'Blind Side,' 'District 9,' 'An Education,' 'Inglorious Basterds,' 'Precious,' 'A Serious Man,' 'Up' and 'Up in the Air.' The 82nd Oscars will be presented March 7 in a ceremony airing on ABC from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre. Get more details on major snubs and surprises on Moviefone.com and see the full list of nominees.

This year, the Best picture category features 10 best-picture nominees instead of the usual five because Academy officials want more variety.
'Up In The Air' also took in several nominations as well, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (George Clooney) and Best Supporting Actress (Anna Kendrick.)
Top acting nominees include the four stars who have dominated early awards shows: Sandra Bullock for 'The Blind Side,' Jeff Bridges for 'Crazy Heart' and supporting performers Mo'Nique 'Precious' and Christoph Waltz for 'Inglourious Basterds.'

"The Hurt Locker" was one of the best movies on war or related I have seen yet. My hubby was an EOD tech (Bomb Tech) deployed 3 times and this was pretty realistic. I cried from beginning to end it hit so close to home. I am sure my opinion is impartial and if you didnt like the movie that is fine. I liked it because me, husband and our 3 children can relate.

oh yeah i can relate to the action. vietnam vet. but im sorry, hurt locker isnt that good . but thats just my opinion.
I can't believe District 9 is up for best picture. I couldn't stomach it and left the theater 1/2 way through and waited in the lobby reading my book until my husband came out. It was absolutely horrible. I'm stunned they nominated it.

i havent seen avatar yet, so i cant say how good it is. but i have seen hurt locker, and i can say it shouldnt even be on the list. it really sucks.

Avator is an stunning visual experience. The art direction was amazing. Hopefully, there will be a book detailing the making of it. But, like Titanic, the story is mediocre. James Cameron isn't interested in story, evidently. He knows how to produce very popular movies that makes tons of money. With all the visual achievements of his films, perhaps one day he'll hire a writer with an intellect, and produce a film for everyone, that also makes tons of money!

I've see most of the top 10 but I have to admit with nearly 60 years of walking this earth under my belt, Avatar was the only one that swept me up and transported me to another place. I haven't had an experiece like that since 1969 when I did amazing blotter acid and went to a Led Zepplin concert.

There is definitely one MAJOR omission, ergo, not one bit of justice: For Best Supporting Actress, the academy left out the always funny and delightful BETTY WHITE for her performance as Grandma Annie in "The Proposal". Being one who has seen it twice, I can tell you that Betty absolutely steals this film. Let's let the academy have it for their atrocious oversight.

Inglorious bastards sucked big time...i kept waiting and waiting and waiting for something to happen...then it was over...lol...Avitar was great!

I saw the Hurt Locker and it sucked. The handheld camera shots were dumb and the picture didn't even follow any story arc. The director of HL must have had too many hot injections of bad screen writing from her beau.
What was the deal with the ambush in the desert and what did that have to do with bombs?
Slug me in the stomach while I'm drunk, o.k.?

The Hurt Locker will take it, because Hollywood is a Lib crowd who is into war pictures and protest

I hope James Cameron ex-wife takes it for all the 5 wifes he's had. He sure looks older then 55.

I won't even watch an even more boring Academy Awards with 10 Best Picture nominees making it run probably four hours. Any awards show that nominates over-rated, overpaid egomaniacs like James Cameron, George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino is a waste of time. During this Great Depression do we really need to be reminded of how inconsequential these people are in the scheme of things? If Clooney wins, he can have his Oscar melted down for gold teeth for the earthquake victims of Hatia.

Avatar had a terrible script. I'm never going to take the Oscars seriously ever again if it wins.
