'American Idol' judge Simon Cowell's new charity song for Haitian earthquake victims featuring artists as varied as Susan Boyle, Jon Bon Jovi and Mariah Carey hit airwaves today.
The song is a cover of REM's classic ballad 'Everybody Hurts.' Cowell quickly recorded more than 20 stars in hopes of raising money on behalf of survivors of a devastating earthquake which has claimed the lives of up to 200,000 people in Haiti. Michael Bublé, Rod Stewart and Kylie Minogue are also on the record. Give It a Listen:
The song can be ordered online at www.hmv.com, www.play.com and www.amazon.co.uk.
Other celebs are making similar efforts to help Haiti victims. Cowell's song coincides with the news that Quincy Jones is overseeing a new version of 'We Are the World,' 25 years after the original song put a spotlight on the tragedy of famine in Africa. Barbra Streisand, Kanye West and Miley Cyrus are among 70 stars who have contributed to that project.
George Clooney and U2's Bono were featured in a multi-network telethon that raised more than $61 million. Also, the 'Hope For Haiti Now' charity album opened at the number 1 position on the U.S. charts.
Simon Cowell, 50, is infamous as the acid-tongued judge on Fox's top-rated musical competition 'American Idol.' In the wake of the stunning departure of Paula Abdul, Cowell has also formalized his intentions to leave 'Idol' to start production of the 'X-Factor,' an American equivalent of his hit British music show. The new show is slated to begin production in fall 2011.
totally agree with you bonbon- can't believe how over-rated kanye and jay-z are... even beyonce, while i can appreciate her talent i can not stand her songs- pure drivel!
I wouldn't be surprised that Bonbon and Debi are whites and are racists themselves. I personally don't like Kanye and his music. I like Jay-Z as a person but not his music and I am black. Kanye West is a jackass and not racists. Bonbon and Debi clearly are racists who hate the fact that black people are succeeding.
That song is awful, has an overused tone and is sappy. Where is the 92 million we sent in the last ten years? In the pockets of the government, and the same will happen again.
That just makes you as bad as he is. This is not something that is going to benefit K or J or any of the other stars singing in it. It is a benefit to aid Haiti. When you single out two people whom you regard as jerks on the record you just give them the publicity they seek. Ignore them and praise the really good singers on the recording who do it from their hearts and for Haiti. When you start a negative campaign to ban the record you are acting like a medium to defeat the success of something that is being done for a really good cause. Just keep your thoughts to yourself. People will ignore them if you don't keep putting their names in the news.
Personally I don't know about Jay-z being racist, so I can't say. I have seen and heard Kanye mouth off a number of times that he ultimately was forced to give a heartless apology for. He does seem angry at whites. As a black male, he doesn't speak for me. Not taking sides, just callin like I see it. Whatever.
CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG WITHOUT RACE BEING A FACTOR? WON'T WE ALL BE SURPRISED TO MAKE IT TO HEAVEN AND GOD IS A BLACK MAN OR LATINO OR ASIAN? PRAY MORE AND JUDGE LESS. EVERYTIME YOU SAY SOMETHING NEGATIVE YOU ARE SPEWING POISON.GOD BLESS THE WORLD....
Just Brilliant Simon!! I applaud your efforts, and was a perfect choice for so many in Haiti. And, in America would could use a little help as well. God Bless you! Linda L. Cramer
no matter how much life throws at us,we will get up and deal with it and sing with our hearts ,because this, our country and world are what we are,we make it, and it makes us, stand together and unite and build our strengh and lives and determination back up again and again.keep holding on like the record, Love hurts, Love heals
Although I have the deepest sympathy for the Haitian people,I just wonder why the American government does so much for other countries before they help their own people. I am referring to the disaster in Louisiana. Its a real shame that our people have to wait for help.I didn't see many foreign countries rushing over here to help us.This country has got to put their priorities in order. It seems that we are always the last ones on the totem pole.

Simon picked better people for his effort, I won't purchase anything that has Kanye West or Jay-Z in it, they are racists and haters.
