AC/DC Frontman Says Bono's Good Deeds Are Cheap

For a man who is barely coherent when he sings, Brian Johnson of AC/DC is making himself perfectly clear when it comes to outspoken do-gooders like Bono and Bob Geldof.
"When I was a working man I didn't want to go to a concert for some bastard to talk down to me that I should be thinking of some kid in Africa," he bluntly told the
Herald Sun in Australia.
To be fair, Johnson is not railing against helping the less fortunate, it's the grand gestures like worldwide benefit concerts and glittery telethons that grate on him.
"I'm sorry mate, do it yourself, spend some of your own money and get it done," he added. "It just makes me angry. I become all tyrannical."
Johnson insisted he gives on occasion but there's one big difference between him and Bono: "I don't tell everybody I'm doing it," and better yet, "I don't tell everybody they should give money -- they can't afford it.
AC/DC famously turned down a slot at 1985's Live Aid, which he squarely calls a failure.
"Bob Geldof is a canny lad. He did what he thought was right at the time but it didn't work," he said, referring to the man behind Live Aid. "The money didn't go to poor people. It makes me mad when people try to use politics or charity for publicity."

100 percent agreed...........love all these celebs getting up and telling others what to do...they are all getting far too much press...
Not 100% right. I'm only speaking about Bono here, but he's has given his own and more than that his methods have had billions of third world debt retired by lobbying heads of state. Bringing this to the foreground actually lets more money go directly to those in need as many of these countries have been using aid to pay off national debt. I believe some of these celebrities are phonies, I've seen some take huge appearance fees from the charities they are supposed to support. That is the exception not the rule. The good think about the internet, it keeps most of them honest.
LIKE IT OR NOT Bono is doing the right thing and the best he can. IF he and other NON PHONY activists gave all their money it would do a goddamned thing beyond 15 min of nation debt reduction. So many third world countries are suffering because of western government policies that bankrupt and hold hostage entire economies. HE IS TRYING TO BRING AWARENESS to an ill educated, video game obsessed, F everybody else generation of spolied brat jackasses. Bono has been doing this ever since he had a LITTLE success, well before George Clooney Sean Penn and other like morons jumped on the band wagon. IT has been his goal to try to help a suffering society. YES it does get a little annoying SOMETIME but it has to be done. WHY don't you haters grow up, get a little educated on the REAL FACTS of why these nations need help from real people. BUT you'll probably just sit in front of your xbox shoving hambugers and beer down your throats until you puke. Bono has gained NOTHING by doing this. In fact it has probably hurt him more socially because it is not popular to ask people to help others. You wanna talk about BALLS??? IT takes REAL BIG BALLS to do that.
I have to say right on.I wish he whould have told him sunglasses are for outside.

Right on Brian. These phonies do this for the publicity, but never donate there own money. Live Aid was a failure. The money (what little was left after all the private jets and perks)didn't do anything to help these people. Try selling one of your mansions before asking working people to donate what they don't have.

Johnson is right. Who wants to preached to by stars? In fact, I have specifically stopped watching the movies of stars that will not shut-up politically. I will not watch George Clooney, Brad Pitt, or Angelina Jolie movies. They preach a great deal, but they don't act like good people. Look at Brad and Angie. Brad cheated on Jen and left her for Angie and Angie very well knew he was married and took him anyway. I will not follow the views of people like that. I am tired of stars using politics and charities to further their careers. I don't want to hear the political views of people that two weeks before they were stars were flipping burgers at the local McDonald's. I'd rather trust my own views.

You got it right. I no longer see movies of stars who try to push their political agendas on me. I think Sean Penn is a great actor, but I won't be seeing any more of his films after the ass he made of himself at the Oscars last year. Celebrities have a platform and they should get off of it. I am smart enough to think for myself.
You said it. I truly cannot watch a film with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise or any of the other so-called "stars." I watch the real actors.
One more reason I love AC/DC!!!!!!!

he said it perfect! If I see one more singer or so called movie star begging for money from people who just don't have it, I'm going to puke. People are having trouble feeding the kids, paying bills, and these asses who make millions are asking us for money. Then when they give the whole world needs to hear abot it! Why doesn't George Clooney raise some money for people in his own country.

I give a lot of credit to Brian Johnson for speaking out
about giving to charities. Many Americans not only give,
but have been volunteering for years, longer than before Bono, came on the scene. Todays celebtities announce or don't
mind if the media lets the world know how much they give to
a charity. Many years ago, "Movie Stars" gave to charities
in silence, only to find out in their obituaries.

Brian Johnson is not a wart on the butt of Bono (or Bon Scott for that matter). AT least Bono and Bob Geldoff use their celebrity status for good. Last time I checked, Brian Johnson is a OLD man and can barely sing. And once more, the only AC/DC record that can even hold a candle to any U2 record is Back and Black and that is 30 years old. U2 have put out more hit songs in the past 20 years than most other bands/

Jeff I bet you are a big Duran Duran fan also.
That's the only way to explain your opinion.
good one ERN , i bet he likes the village people too !!!!!!!!!!
Is that you Bono, hiding behind some regular guy name. Its amazing, but in the past 20 or so years of my life, I am yet to run into an actual fan of U2. Do you wear the same glasses as your idol?
