Leif Garrett Arrested Again, Spends 2 Nights in Jail

What's going on with former child stars these days? A week after Gary Coleman spent a long day in jail, fellow ex-child star Leif Garrett found himself locked up for two days this week on drug charges.

The singer-actor, who reached teen idol status in the 1970s, was arrested Monday morning at a downtown Los Angeles Metrolink station for possession of a controlled substance. According to a TMZ report, police found black tar heroin in his shoe. He was booked but was unable to make bail until early Wednesday morning.

Garrett was released after posting $10,000 bail and is due back in court on Feb. 24.

Garrett's drug problem has dogged him for decades and he was actually arrested on the same subway line in 2006 for possession of heroin and Quaaludes. He was also arrested in 1999 and 2005, both times for drug possession.

He spent three months in jail in early 2006 for failing to complete a drug rehab program. Needless to say, this latest setback could lead to more jail time for the 'Runaround Sue' singer.

His peer, 'Diff'rent Strokes' star Coleman, spent 27 hours behind bars in Utah in late January over an outstanding warrant. A fan of his work posted his $1,725 bail.

Anyone who has ever dealt with someone with an addiction knows that it is THE single most horrible existence known to humans. Just when you get them clean and functioning again (for the 1000th time), something happens to knock them right back down. The ones who can stay clean are truly blessed, and the ones who can't have miserable lives. They hurt everyone and everything they touch. But, we keep trying to help, and keep loving them because ... we never know which time "being clean" will actually "take", and we may get our "old" loved one back!
But, in truth, some of them are lost forever ... here's hoping that somehow, some way, someone or something gets thru to him and one of these days he can finally make it! He IS, (still), relatively young!

They get; or so they think: a little recognition and it goes straight to their heads. They are so self indulgent, it does not surprise me that the "child stars" grow up to be failures in some way or another.
Look what money did for cute little Mikey Jackson! I could name many others, but will not bore the straight thinking people who read this garbage!

Forget about Lief Garrett. It's just a matter of time before he joins Jimmi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Michael Jackson, Keith Ledger, Jim Morrison, etc, it just goes on and on...what a waste! Drugs and TV are the worst thinks that ever happened to this planet and the human race.

@Joy: Even if it sounds mean, Leif should've died years ago. He wanted to be like his idols Robert Plant & Rod Stewart, but he couldn't keep it up.

Hmm...Shirley Temple was my favorite child star, a darling and loved by all who worked with her. She had a pretty short career because once she hit the teen years the studios were done with her. She married young, divorced, remarried and became a US Ambassador. Your life doesn't have to go down the toilet because you had talent and were once cute.
