Imagine grilling Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel and Jennifer Garner about whether weight-watching is really worth it. Now that's a talk show a lot of people would watch!Except that it wasn't afternoon television, it was a live press conference event for "Valentine's Day" and the outspoken star Shirley MacLaine was the one asking the questions.
MacLaine unexpectedly took the microphone and asked her assembled super-slim co-stars about their eating habits.
"I would like to ask all the woman up here what they eat?" MacLaine asked. "I'd like to have a rundown. Do you diet all the time? You're looking so fabulous. Is it worth it?"

i wish shirley yelled out "bulls--t!"

I agree, someone should have yelled something
why do all celebs use breastfeeding as an excuse? it doesn't work for most women, i would know as a mother of 2!
Reply
Actually it does work, as a mother of one. As for Jennifer Garner, i believe that she works out a lot and watches what she eats, quite the crazy idea, huh?
Must have taken this guy hours to write this article... Really made a mole hill out of these mountains.

Perhaps this is something Ms. Maclaine (one of my all time favorite actresses) should have asked in private.
However, on the other side of the coin is that perhaps she is holding these young people publicly accountable for the message they're sending out.
More and more of these actresses are showing up thinner and thinner: size two, size zero -- how soon until even a zero isn't small enough?
I don't think they represent the whole of female society (outside of Hollywood's standards anyway) -- thank God! -- and I find it refreshing that someone who has been around longer than many of them likely will, is talking to them about taking care of themselves first, image second.

It is no more Ms. McClaine's business to question slim women about their diets than it would be to grill an overweight woman. Honestly, does anyone have any manners anymore???

Agreed. If it is not OK to grill someone about being overweight then it is not OK to grill someone about being overweight. If she asked a large person whether or not they ate 6 or 8 cheeseburgers a day she would have been lynched. If that is not OK, this is not OK. Period.
Oops, second "overweight" should read "underweight"
I'm surprised she didn't ask them what they were going to eat in their next life. Busybody.

LOL too funny Shirley and julia called them out for starving themselves. LOL

Man-stealing Julia Roberts once again proves she is an exploitative creep.

What in the world is Shirley MacLaine talking about? Have you seen pictures of her when she was a young performer? Absolutely thin!

Jennifer Garner should have said, "Jealous much?"

I love it. They're are young and beautiful woman and I don't blame them for "God knows what their excuse is" what ever it is to stay slim. Being that slim equates to looking good and wearing clothes well. But, they will be asking that very same question one day that Shirley is asking.
Yes. it's worth it as long as you can stand it I love Shirley!

Seems someone is a little jealous that she is old and out of shape and crazy to boot!

Wait, Jennifer Garner used the excuse breastfeeding for why she is rail thin right now? For the first 9-10 months of her daughter's life, Jennifer was puffy, she had a post-pregnancy gut and then all of a sudden, she got stick thin and scary look. So was she not breastfeeding those first 9 months and now that her child is 13 months old, she started so that made her thin? Give me a break. Those women, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba, they actually looked good a few months post-pregnancy, they had a little weight on them, they were probably only 15-20 lbs. over what they normally way and they looked good. Now they look anorexic and sickly. I certainly don't want to watch them in movies being that thin. And I don't want to see them in pictures or here them talk about their weight.
Hollywood should be ashamed of themselves. It's probably men behind a desk, telling these movie stars "Oh yeah, the American people don't want to see you fat, so lose all the weight." Ummm, yeah, give me a break. I'd like to see more healthy looking stars in movies.
