While promoting his new film 'Edge of Darkness' this week, Mel Gibson called one reporter an "a**hole" after he was asked to answer questions about his notorious drunken, anti-semitic tirade. Then, Gibson had a repeat outburt less than a week later when KTLA Los Angeles reporter Sam Rubin asked if his absence from the big screen had anything to do with his DUI arrest. Cue angry flip out.
Of course, Gibson isn't the only star to have a verbal throw down with reporters. When it comes to interviews, some celebrities get defensive and instead of pleading the fifth, they go on a tirade instead. See the best stars vs. reporters caught on tape. >>
In case you missed it, Gibson became furious with two different reporters (from different networks) while promoting his latest flick. Gibson angrliy responded to interview questions once the focus turned to the touchy subject regarding his 2006 DUI arrest and his drunken tirade.
During 'The Today Show,' Matt Lauer asked Tom Cruise what he thought about Brooke Shields promoting medication to deal with postpartum depression. The tension quickly built, and Cruise grew testy debating the terrible side effects of antidepressants. (Scientology forbids the use of all psychiatric drugs.) As the debate got more heated, Cruise barely let Lauer have a word in. Then when Lauer asked Cruise how he could get more people to understand Scientology, Cruise responded, clearly angry, "You just communicate about it," Cruise said. "If I want to know something, I go and find out. Because I don't talk about things that I don't understand."
On May 19, 1999, daytime TV talk show host Rosie O'Donnell ambushed actor Tom Selleck for his support of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and demanded that he justify the freedom to buy assault weapons. Selleck found himself defending gun ownership, and after a long heated debate, Selleck finally added, "I didn't come onto your show to have a debate. I came here to promote a movie... It's your show, and you can talk about it after I leave."
Prior to Mike Tyson's fight against Francois Botha in 1999, reporter Russ Salzberg cut Tyson's interview short when the boxer wouldn't moderate his language. "Mike, uh, Francois Botha, 6-to-1 underdog. Are there any concerns on your part?" Salzberg starts the interview. Mike Tyson responds, "Uh, I don't know anything about that. I don't know nothing about the the numbers. I just know what I can do... I'm gonna kill this..." Cue f-bombs.
Singer Bjork took on a reporter in a full on brawl in 1996. Upon arriving at the Bangkok International Airport Bjork grabbed reporter Julie Kaufman by the hair and the rest is history.
Calling in via satellite to promote 'Kill Bill,' Quentin Tarantino wasn't too happy when one movie reviewer kept questioning the violence in his films. Tarantino explodes, "Because it is so much fun... You're talking about real life. I'm talking about movie." he says. Later he adds, "I didn't make this movie for you." The argument quickly turns hostile and sarcastic.
Tom Cruise, first of all, needs to learn how to behave on T.V. He looked sloppy and lacked class. Tom Cruise, Go read Amy vanderbuilt and learn some morale. As for your scientology nonsense, you misrepresent them, because you don't seem to possess the infinite patience and wisdom they teach. Mel Gibson? He is clearly a douche pipe.
OMG!!!! Get over it already - he was drunk, we weren't there - he might or might not have made those remarks. It was like 5 years ago - put it to reat already. Have you never made an out of line remark - I am sure you have, we are all human - stop throwing stones and take a good look at yourself.
When Gibson starts one of his tantrums in an interview, it's prob b/c he was drinking before the interview. Yet, I personally know some men who yell and swear with very little provocation; and weren't drinking.
I think the reporter has a job to do, and that is to report the news. If he has a problem with Gibson, he should take that up off air. Not on our time. Meet Mel outside and then go for it. Do try to pick a fight with him on air and try to make him look bad. I think the reporter was scared that is why he didn't expose his true angle, and that is why he chose to do it on air. You like in LA, I am sure you could find Mel if you really want to.
Selleck's answer to Rosie was NOT a rant! It was polite, reasonable, civil, made good sense. If you want to see rudeness, read up on Rosie's appearences on The View.
I saw this interview when it originally aired, and I was so impressed by Mr. Selleck's poise while undergoing this onslaught by Mz O'Donnell...he kept his cool the whole time and was polite, but you could tell he was reaching the end of his rope with her verbal attack on him. Shame on Mz O'Donnell for using her show as a political forum to verbally bash actors who differ from her politically...she has to have a captive audience because no one would give her the time of day otherwise! I have always been a fan of Mr. Selleck, but after watching this interview I am even more so...
Mel Gibson is a great and wondeful talent that has entertained us all for decades. The world as a whole has benefited and enjoyed Mr. Gibson's god gifted talents. Is he is perfect, of course not, Should we forgive him, you bet! For is it not written in the Bible, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." He has sincerely apologized for his mistakes, and it is time to put these incidences of four years ago behind us. I for one has missed him, and am looking forward to seeing him star in more movie roles. Hollywood would be all the better for it. In the end, it is the public that loses if he retires in obsecurity!
Priceless Mel!!! I would have done exactly the same thing...the media is not one to let go of anything, especially if they can hold your post over your neck like rotten meat. I have no sympathy for the media that partakes in it and am glad Mel speaks up for himself. By the way, your movie is really good!
Mel gets upset too easily. He could just answer the question because those were things he has said and done and he hasn't made a movie since then. Maybe he didn't really mean those things and just wanted to say things that would be hurtful. He says he is not racist and I believe him but he is too defensive about it.
Mal I hope, no I pray that you kick ass at the box office. you did what you did. It's over guys, get a life and move on. These guys in the media need to start wearing dresses.
Im gonna see the movie in theatres, then I'm going to buy the movie, and rent it from blockbuster, redbox, and netflix. Just to make a point about 'forgiveness'.
I do hope to live to see the day when Tom Cruise gets a terrible case of Depression. He has NO idea what the word means, and I really hope to see him highly depressed in my lifetime and see what he does. He is so Stupid to think he KNOWS Psychiatry. He is not such a wonderful actor, but don't tell him that, because he will not believe you. Why do so many people think they know it ALL, when they don't have a clue? I still feel sorry for that little one he claims is his!
After listening to these "celebrities" I am glad they use scripts in movies and that someone else is responsible of what they say on the screen. It is embarrassing to realize that I have spent money to see their films.
it's obvious sam rubin does have a "dog in the fight" and like most cowards talks smack behind mel's back when he's not there to dispute or retort...this jackass is obvious impartial and shouldn't be giving interviews if he's still holding a grudge over verbal speculation 4 years ago..it always amazes me how ignorant, unforgiving and bias the supposed "openminded hollywood liberals" are..
Mike Tyson is a foul mouth pig has been he can not talk without saying foul dirty words.you dont have to be educated to know you dont talk like that at an enter view for the world to see.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

Mel is adorable and anyone stupid enough to ask someone that question deserves to be called an A Hole.

Selleck is a class act. I can't think of a time, that I could say that
of Rosie.
