Brittany Murphy's Cause of Death Determined

Brittany Murphy's death was accidental, the L.A. County Coroner determined,
TMZ reports.
According to the coroner's findings, the 32-year-old died of community acquired pneumonia, iron deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication -- which included prescription and over-the-counter drugs.
The report also indicated that her death was "preventable."
TMZ says that her pneumonia was "treatable," but she wasn't taken to the doctor in time.
"This death could've been preventable," Assistant Chief Ed Winter says,
PEOPLE reports.
"Murphy was planning on seeing a doctor, but she unfortunately passed away before she did. This was a case of a person with pneumonia who was anemic (having a low blood count) who was taking medication when she should've been getting medical treatment," Winter adds.
In a previous interview with PEOPLE, Brittany's husband Simon Monjack said, "I took very good care of my wife ... She was on an antibiotic and she was taking cough medicine and doing all the right things."
Winter reiterates that there were no illegal drugs found in her system. "It was only prescription and over-the-counter meds."
Furthermore, he reveals that Monjack was never a suspect. "He was never considered a suspect. No one's criminally liable here because this has been ruled an accident."
A full toxicology report is expected in two weeks.
Murphy was found dead in her bathroom by Monjack. Since her death, he and the 'Clueless' star's mother insisted that her death was not drug related, but rather caused by a heart condition.
They've also maintained that she did not suffer from an eating disorder.

multiple drug intoxication just means she had multiple drugs in her system! She could of had blood pressure pills, water pills, over the counter meds, ect. not always pain killers and anti anxiety pills! I am sure the LA coroner's office would love to put an OD label on her results, but they didn't because they couldn't! Give her a break! To all you cyber know it all coroners When I die I want to be burried upside down, so U can ALL kiss my ass!

To the virtuous ones on here who think drug addiction is only for the weak, look around your own acquaintances and family members who are taking prescription drugs like vicodin, prozac, albuteral, etc. These are also drugs and just because those who PRACTICE medicine prescribe them do not make the drugs any less harmful.
It's unfortunate this young woman fell victim to drugs. RIP.

Didn't her mom find her in her place not her husband? but anyway, seems like her husband and mom are in denial about her druggie problem..aww

Ummm, they didn't mention what TYPE of multiple drugs she was on, but by the looks of it, they may have been from the heart problems she had, and totally legal. Even some legal drugs shouldn't mix.

multiple drug intoxication is not an overdose, it is the wrong drugs mixed....that is dr/pharmacy error....iron deficiency anemia does not necessarily mean bulimia, wrong medications can cause that too....let the poor woman rest in peace and let the family mourn without having more to worry about.

i wonder how much her estate was worth and who the benificiary
is. you wonder how her ailments could go untreated for so long
since neither the mother or the husband seemed concerned enough to get her adequate help i would lay odds their both in her will

WHERES THE REST OF THE STORY ?

Iron deficiency anemia is NOT always genetic. A lot of times it is diet related. Clearly she was emaciated and not eating well.

Rest with the angels, because you are one. You truly were too good for this useless world. You had a ton of talent. You will be missed by all your fans!!!

So NOW will her husband stop claiming that Hollywood killed her? This is all very sad and she was far too young to die but losing that one movie role didn't cause her to get pneumonia or an iron deficience. Simon - drop the case, you'll disrespect Brittany.

Multiple drug intoxication doesn't necessarily mean that she was addicted to drugs. If you remember correctly, she had many prescribed medications that she was taking including antidepressants. This is the primary reason you should read the information on any medication you receive from a pharmacy. You should also inform your physician of any OTC/herbal supplements also. This was an unfortunate tragedy that could have been prevented. We will miss you Britt!!

Thank you for what appears to be one of the only
intelligent posts regarding this article about Brittany
Murphy's death.
Bottom line is this, We really do not know how she died NOT REALLY. You just want to keep spectulating over and over. Makes me sick that some of you keep saying addicted to drugs and died because of drugs. Was you their? Did you know her? You crack me up. What diff the poor girl in gone, she could have died from pneumonia, something we'll really nvr know. I know everyone has an opinion but that is all it is. Rest In Peace, BM

"Multiple drug intoxication?" That's all I have to see that tells me it wasn't an "accidental death." Yah, she accidently fell on the floor and a whole bottle of pills dropped off the counter into her mouth. This is typical Hollywood crap.

Was she in the movie 'Clueless'...I thought that was Alicia Silverstone?

she played Tai...the girl that got the makeover
Some of you people are so ignorant and judgemental. I do not have billemia and I have an iron deficiency. The medical exam said she died because of pneumonia, and the prescription drugs were probably given to her from her doctor because it was reported she saw one for her illness several weeks ago, and she probably had over the counter drugs to prevent headaches from feeling bad etc. Instead of trying to jump to the most extreme conclusion just because she's a star try to step back and look at it logically.
