The soap opera world lost another great yesterday. PEOPLE is reporting that Frances Reid of 'Days of Our Lives' died Wednesday at the age of 95, with the cause of death yet to be made official.
Already, a number of Reid's co-stars have expressed their sympathy on Twitter. "Greg Meng called me this morning to tell me of the loss of our darling Frances Reid. She was loved, revered, and will be remembered," said Deidre Hall, who played Marlena Evans on the long-running series until last year.
"I'm so sad to hear the news about Frances Reid," said Alison Sweeney. "She was a truly talented actress and we are all lucky and proud to have known her."
Reid -- whose last appearance on the show aired in 2007 -- first joined the cast of 'Days of Our Lives' when the show debuted on Nov. 8, 1965. From then on, she portrayed the role of matriarch Alice Horton, a role that earned her Daytime Emmy nominations in 1979 and 1987. Reid was also awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.
Reid's acting career dates back to 1938 with a tiny role in the film 'Man-Proof.' The following year, she made her Broadway debut in 'Where There's a Will,' before joining the radio soap opera 'Portia Faces of Life' in 1954. Though best remembered for 'Days,' Reid made additional appearances on 'As the World Turns' and 'The Edge of Night.'
Hailing from Wichita Falls, Texas, Reid was married to actor Philip Bourneuf, who died in 1979, for over 30 years.
Last week, soap opera fans also mourned the death of 'All My Children''s James Mitchell, who died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at age 89.

What a great lady she was ! During the 1980s I watched or taped " Days " and watched religously . I am sadden to hear of her passing . What a fantastic person who really made those who watched feel they had a second - Mom - to look after them . Rest in peace and say hello to the " Voice " once you get to heaven .
I'd like to echo Kevin's sentiments regarding Frances Reid. I, too, was a devoted fan during the years she and MacDonald Carey were the "Mother/Father" figures on Day's. Ms. Reid was a consummate actor and she will be greatly missed. God speed, Ms. Reid!
If this is true....Jon Mayer is too much older than Taylor Swift....Besides, from what I've seen he seems like a heart-breaker...she deserves better..she is so sweet..
I know i'll probley be raked over the coals about what i am going to say about Taylor and John, If this is also true then Taylor isn't the bright and smart "young" person everyone gloats about, and John he's just out for another conquest, If TS is such a good role model for young girls then what does this show her hanging about and (has dated him) to theses young girls look up to her, TS is just as bad, she sings of all of her lost loves.. In her fairy tale songs, she needs to get a clue and grow up also and 20 isn't a baby anymore she should be held responsable for her actions. it cant be blamed on her parents for her actions, I just hope T.S. doesn't get sucked into johns web of stories he feed all of his woman. TAYLOR run get out and away from him quick.
How sad. I grew up watching Days with my mom. I stopped around the time they possessed Marleana. I always loved "Alice Horton"...she was the ideal grandmother. It's kind of sweet to think the "Alice" and "Tom" are reunited in heaven now. My sincerest sympathies for Ms. Reid's family. She lived a long life and brought a smile to millions everyday for so many years....THAT is a well lived life.
i grew up with my grand mother watching days of are lives i even remember my grand mother be sewing and she would qutto watch the show she and tom horton are in haven with my grandmother carter and my mom
I'm so sadden about Frances's death, she was a dear friend, it's unfortunate we did not get to see each other often because we live on different coast, for me I've lost a friend and because I'm 89 it reminds me time for us is nearing the end, and like Frances there's so much more life we would like to live. Goodbye my dear friend
God Bless Her, I have been a devoted fan for over 40 years. Frances was a wonderful actress who brought the character of Alice to life for all of us. She will be dearly missed.
This has truly broke my heart. I have watched Days of our lives since I was 15, and I have always loved Frances Reid. She will always be remembered as grandma Alice. I am truly sadden and in tears and will be for a while. Go home to the angels Frances they are truely getting a gem up there. Love and Kisses to you Frances!!!!!
Our loss is heavens gain. Mrs.Reid will be missed by everyone. My condolences to her family and friends and her extended family from the cast of days and to all of her fans. Rest in peace.
I too have been watching Days since I was 13 and always loved Frances Reid. God bless her and her family. She will be missed dearly. Although I still watch it, it is not the same during the holidays when "Gran" as (Hope calls her) is not there to hang the ornaments on the Horton family tree.
Thirty years ago I started makeing Christmas ornaments for all the family because "Gran" did that! This past Christmas, as I looked at my LOADED Christmas tree, I thought about Ms. Reid, she touched a lot of lives in a lot of ways. Always liked her, even when Days got silly.
I enjoyed watching Francis Reid for years on Days of Our Lives. She was a the wonderful matriarch of the whole Horton family. I missed her when she went off of the show and I often thought of her. My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to her family.
David s. you should be happy, you won't die of a heart ailment, it appears you lack one! We are fans, true, may of us did not know her personally, but we love her all the same!
I was so very saddened to hear the news of Ms. Reid's passing today. I've watched DOOL since its beginning in 1965 and even changed my lunchtime at work just so I could be at home to watch. Alice Horton was the grandmother I never had. In recent years she did look fraile, so I hope she passed peacefully. I'm also hoping DOOL will give her a proper memorial on the show with all the cast members from throughout the years stopping by to say goodbye. I suddenly feel the need for a doughnut. xoxoxo
Jan.............that was a really rude cold-hearted statement. She probably died of a long time illness. A person can die at any age. young or old. the only thing that matters now she is for sure not suffering in this cold hate filled world. she is for sure in a better place now...IN HEAVEN with GOD and DR. Tom. She will be truly missed. God bless her family . and for you Jan you need some warm hearted spiritual guidance..........READ THE BIBLE........it will fill your soul
The world seems a little less bright today. What sad news of Frances Reid's death. We were blessed to have been able to enjoy her screen brilliance. To her family, friends, co workers and long time fans, I send my condolences. Thanks to her family for sharing her with us, what a long great career you had, now and forever may you RIP Frances.

Dear LM,
I am so sorry for your loss. We love our friends by choice, as opposed to family. :) But they all are waiting for us on that Golden Shore.
