Kelly Clarkson to Taylor Swift's Label: 'Idol' Hits High Notes ... And Right Notes
By PopEater Staff Posted Feb 5th 2010 06:34AM
Kelly Clarkson is fired up about Taylor Swift's "pitch-challenged" performance at the Grammy Awards and weighing in about the recent comments made by Big Machine Records's Scott Borchetta who called Swift "the voice of this generation." In the same statement, he added, "This is not American Idol. This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator." Clarkson posted a letter on her blog (via PEOPLE) that she found it "upsetting" that he attacked the reality singing show. "We not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the 'right' notes as well," the 'American Idol' winner wrote.

"Thank you for that 'Captain Obvious' sense of humor," Clarkson adds.
While Clarkson admitted that she has had "shaky" performances in the past, she didn't think he handled the situation well. "Every artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better... instead of lashing out at other artists (that in your 'humble' opinion lack true artistry), you should simply take a breath and realize that sometimes things won't go according to plan or work out and that's okay."
Clarkson then signed her letter with "Sincerely, One of those contestants from American Idol who only made it because of her high notes," and added a winking smiley face.

taylor swift is a very talented song writer for her age and a fairly good entertainer, but she definitly does not have the voice that Carrie Underwood has, or Clarkson!

What kind of a hearing-challenged moron is this Scott Borchetta??? The "Voice of this GENERATION"??? Ummm, I don't THINK so, Scotty.... Swift is beautiful, talented, a gifted writer and a good recording artist, but a major VOICE, she AIN'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Her live performances tend to be pure, unadulterated sh**.)

And when Kelly has finished eating pizza she can still sing and Taylor still can't.

If you REALLY want to hear the voice of the century, go see Martina McBride in concert.

Who cares about either of them? They're both part of the 'Artificial Idol' sensation that many Americans have bought in to...But not this one...

How did Taylor Twit get so far so fast with no talent?

I cannot stand Kelly Clarkson. She is way too full of herself. Sounds to me like she's jealous of Taylor Swift. I personally don't think that Kelly has all that great of a voice. She sounds like she is always straining to hit the notes, any notes, when she sings and has her own problems hitting the high ones.

Are you kidding me? Kelly Clarkson has actual talent. Taylor would be & was no where before the Kanye incident, which may I add, Kelly was very upset about!
Kelly has had alot of hits, Taylor keeps singing the same two songs, over & over & over & over & over again & live she is ALWAYS off key!!!!!!

It's funny that they would say clarkson is "weighing" in on anything.. FAT!!!!

Stop being a hater, she's beautiful and looks very natural. That's the problem with people today they have to hate on other people to make themselves feel better about themselves.

Taylor Swift sucks...her voice sounds good on cd's because it is digitally corrected and such...kinda reminds me of Paula Abdul in the 80's. Ever hear PAULA sing in public? She sucks too. Taylor is going to be a washed up has-been because she has reached the pinnacle of her career, and way too soon.

I would love to see either one of these georgious women sing and up close. I bet they can sing better and look better than the bashers on here. You people calling Kelly fat must have a fat biotch of a mama.

Kelly is right. I like them both but, Taylor was really off key when she sang. I do not think Taylor sings better than Kelly or many others but, she is young and fresh and it sales!!!

For all those who defend Taylor cause she's a great role model, Singing isn't about being a role model. Its about your vocal talent. She's 19 now. At some point in time she's gonna have to hit puberty. Will she still be a role model when she's 25 and singing about high school boys and proms? thats besides the point. I've watched all her performances and her voice is very pitchy with a limited range. Her labels tried to blame it on a technical problem, that she couldn't hear herself or something. Funny cause I've seen people sing in large audiences without hearing themself and they hit all the notes because they rehearsed and have a good voice. I think Taylor peaked. She herself said her voice was pitchy and is taking a year off to work on it.

When I think of all the icons in music over the years one thing sticks out.
A whole lot of them would have been voted off of AI in the first round and probably told to try another career.
Think about, would Chuck Berry, James Brown, Hank Williams, Crissy Hynde, Rodger Daltry, Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen, Janice Joplin, Curt Cobain, Stevie Nicks, Madonna (who got better...listen to her first two albums) just to name a few, have made it based on the AI perception that everyone has to be a pitch perfect singer?
No, of course not.
Even the biggest band in the history of the world, ABBA, would never have made it on singing chops.
People, get a grip.

I am personally so puzzled by Taylor's success. Her voice is below average..even those who like her have to agree her voice is nothing spectacular. Everyone is so caught up on her writing her own songs and playing an instrument when in fact SOOO many singers do the same exact thing. She's really just the product of the old adage "It's not what you know but who". It's sad she won so many Grammy's.

Timing is everything in the music business. I've always said that the best musicians and performers usually never find success.
I respect anyone who has made it though. It takes hard work regardless of what you may think of their talent.
sounds like somebody is jealous!! she should be, Taylor is so much more talented than kelly!

Now let me think about this, Hmmmm, Taylor has how many grammys, how many music awards and Clarkson has how may? Sounds like all the sour notes are from Kelly.
