Mia Farrow, a vocal advocate for children's rights for many years, is lending her voice to the victims of the crisis in Haiti. The Associated Press reports that the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and mother of fifteen has recently spoken out against the recent illegal adoptions in Haiti, calling them "deplorable."Illegal adoptions in the devastated country have been prominently featured in the news recently, following a scandal in which American missionaries were caught attempting to smuggle Haitian children into the Dominican Republic.

The Haitian Gvt. ranks at the bottom of the cesspool for taking care of its own. Mia, you know only what the Hatian Gvt. wants you to know of the accused. Why don't you go down and stick your head into that mess?

I just love how these missionaries are being portrayed as human traffickers for profit. These folks are guilty of nothing more than being overzealous and ignorant of the Haitian laws. There was mass chaos and they were trying to rescue these kids and went about it the wrong way. Case closed.

While I think that's probably true, it doesn't negate the fact that they did break the laws there. Regardless of the situation in Haiti, we are guests in their country and as such, must obey their laws. The missionaries should have known better and from what I've read, the leader did know she was breaking the law but did it anyway.
Ummm its called kidnapping. Their hearts were in the right place, but they went about it the wrong way and they should be prosecuted. If people from another country just up and took children off our streets ( and don't you dare tell me it would be for the better ) you would be crying kidnapping, especially since if it was one of your children. Many familes are only seperated not all families in Haiti were killed.
Donna.....you know that info, how?????
Thank you for finally saying it clear and precise. They meant no harm - they went to HELP in a place of great need. Just wish they had looked at the "laws" first.
They are opportunists plain and simple. They wait until people are desperate, move in, and sell them the big "Christian" bill of goods. Their motives are not pure. They have an agenda. They are sickening.
So why aren't the Haitians looking for all the real criminals in that country? Real being the the ones that escaped from their prisons when the earthquake first hit? From what I've heard they haven't tried to capture them at all. So their answer is to throw the book at well meaning people who were misguided and over zealous? This is too messed up! We (the US) need to tell the Haitians to let them go or we will pull ALL of our aid out of there. Then we tell them that they will have to PAY BACK every NICKLE and DIME we have put there since the Quake. If those missionaries were killers, rapists, and just plain crooks, I could see putting them in jail.
Slap them on the wrist and get 'em back home in the Good Ole US of A!

The parents gave those kids away so they could have a better life, I call that selflish love. How easy it is for Mia to condem others for doing the same thing she has done and gotten away with because she could pay the right people off.

I respect Mia Farrow for her activism, and without a doubt, she is more skilled in wording her statements to appeal to broad audiences without offending anyone to the point it hurts her cause. But IMO, this is not about "illegal adoptions" of Haitian children. This is about child trafficking, and for lack of a stronger term at the moment, Ms. Farrow is right in that it is deplorable. Kudos to the Haitian powers in charge at the moment for getting right on this issue, publicizing it and prosecuting those who are trying to steal their children.

It is so good to see that the Haitian authorities are right on top of things despite the disaster. No lawlessness in Haiti, no siree. And they are smart too. These guys aren't fooled by all the murderers, thugs, looters, and rapists runnning the streets. They know who the real criminals are -- the real danger to Haitians. Good job, guys. Maybe you should start cracking down on tall those doctors, nurses, and other volunteers trying to help out in the face of this unprecedented disaster. I'm sure they are up to no good too.

Any reputable Christian Organization would have known that they needed papers to take children across borders. These people are human trafficers and need to be prosecuted as such.

They should have stayed here in the USA and helped the kid's here. We have so many here that need a home, really after awhile this get's old. We are already giving them everything they want and need, and we sure don't need more kid's here.

I don;t see these same "do gooders" going to Afganistan and "rescuing" children. They thought they could get away with it in Haiti. Punish them to the full extent of the law.

ANY HOME WOULD BE BETTER THAN THOSE IN HAITI FOR THESE KIDS. WE NEED TO HELP THEM GET A DECENT HOME, THOSE PEOPLE WERE ONLY TRYING TO HELP NOT STEAL THE KIDS MOST BAPTISTS ARE VERY INNOCENT PEOPLE ABOUT THESE THINGS AND THEY ARE VERY KIND AND GENEROUS. IF YOU SEE KIDS STARVING AND THE GOVT NOT DOING ANYTHING YOU HAVE TO JUMP IN AND RESCUE THEM.

Mia, just send them some money for birth control. That is what Haiti needs the most.
