Exclusive: On Thursday, ?uestlove -- who mans the drum kit for the tremendously awesome band The Roots on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' -- posted a TwitPic of a sign in the NBC cafeteria. It was of a sign in support of Black History Month, which touted a menu of fried chicken, collard greens and other soul food staples. The photo quickly made its way around the Web, causing many to speculate whether the sign was more offensive than honorary. It just so happened that PopEater was at the Jimmy Fallon studios on Thursday (stay tuned for larger feature next week) just as the Twitter melee was erupting, and we got a chance to chat with ?uestlove about the incident. "It was a joke taken too far," he tells PopEater, joking: "I'll be packing a lunch for the next two years." Smart move, Questo.
?uestlove -- whose real name is Ahmir Thompson -- says that "Twitter is very tongue-in-cheek," and that a simple post that's meant to be funny can easily be misconstrued because of the lack of tone that's available.
"I posted a picture that I saw a little surprising in the lunch cafeteria, and somehow every blogger from Gawker to Huffington Post is taking a run with it," he told PopEater.
Later on his Twitter, ?uestlove wrote: "i think i need a twitter break. i done started something. and now i must put out fire."
Still, he laughed about the situation while talking to PopEater, telling us he's not worried about what will happen to him. "I'm more concerned about the kitchen staff upstairs. I'll be packing a lunch for the next two years."
"James Cameron's plot to make the world look ridiculous! Lame! Stupid! Yet oddly attractive?.....not so much," actress Christina Applegate wrote before watching 'Avatar.' http://tweetphoto.com/7574652

Khloe Kardashian uploaded this photo of her sister Kim Kardashian chowing down on nachos. "Thank God for QuickTrim!!!! Chow down Kimmie!" Khloe writes. http://twitpic.com/wlb9t
Paris Hilton poses with a pup in Aspen. "When I was in Aspen, I saw a woman with this cute little dog and just had to take a pic with her. So cute!" Hilton writes. http://twitpic.com/wl4kn/
"It was a 2 man job getting me in this dress.I may pop something. Here's your bump guys," writes Bethenny Frankel, who stars on 'The Real Housewives of New York City.' http://twitpic.com/wfxpe
this is so stupid. people get offended over nothing. if we had an italian history month they would probably have served pasta, pizza, and garlic bread...seriously who cares. people need to quit being so friggin' sensitive to everything.
It's offensive to me because as a black woman, I do not eat that type of food (soul food). It was not a staple in my house growing up nor is it now. Have you heard of Africa, Jamaica, Haiti, Aruba, etc, these people are black and I can gaurantee you if you asked them what is their main dishes.. it wouldn't be fried chicken, collard greens and other soul food staples. It is also offensive because its not just blacks that eat soul food. Soul food is a staple in the alot of southern homes, black AND white alike.
They're doing it for Black History Month...in the United States. So while yes there are people who are black in Africa and elsewhere, mostly the month is meant to honor Black American culture-which soul food is definitely part of. Now if you don't eat the food, great. But guess what? There's no friggin' food that everyone of a particular skin color eats, so it's either that the chef doesn't get to do something nice for everyone for black history month, or you get over yourself and maybe realize that other people do enjoy this. And then we can all eat our corned beef for St. Patty's and make some fried rice for Chinese New Years. No, not every single irish person eats corned beef and not every single chinese person eats fried rice, but only a moron would be offended.
No one cares about dead presidents either but we still celebrate George Washington and other. Its not about giving blacks a day. They don't talk about contributions made to our country by blacks, so the least they could get is a month. Whites have all of history and beyond to celebrate.
The same mentality, or a joke gone bad cost a great Golfer,(Fuzzy Zoeller)his Career. This stupidity should stop right here all it does is foster and nurture racism. Have you ever heard of Asian month? And it was Asian who built the railroads as slaves. Have you ever considered having European Month? it was them populating this continent. Or maybe we could have a Black Gangs month also..like to celebrate the contribution to the Krips and Bloods. So get over it, forget the jive and wise up.
I with Janelle. Everyone needs to grow up and/or shut up. If you are so ignorant to think that people do not celebrate their culture with food whether it is on the calendar or notyou may need to go back to school and/or look around you, you may just learn something
@KA- First off, the subject you are referring to is AMERICAN HISTORY, not Language Arts- Michael wasn't quoting a book. Second of all, it's YOU'RE (as in "you are"), not your. THIRDLY, he stated an opinion and was not stating a fact, so it has nothing to do with his education level. AND LASTLY, Get over it and learn proper grammar.
Wow... this would be about as bad if I got offended because people serve corn beef and cabbage on St. Patricks day. I'm Irish, but I sure don't eat that stuff. People need to just calm down and this world would be a much better place.

@MONIFAH- The person that put up the "racist menu" IS A BLACK FEMALE. Look it up, there's even video of her addressing the issue.

Agreed Michael. Most blacks can't even remember what happened last weekend, and only think about what they're going to do this weekend
