Times sure have changed for '80s heartthrob Andrew McCarthy. While penning a piece for travel magazine AFAR, the actor was detained at gunpoint after entering an Ethiopian church without proper documentation.According to PEOPLE, the actor, who found himself without his paperwork while visiting the historic Lalibela church in Ethiopia's Amhara Region, was confronted by an armed guard. "His gun [was] pointed at my back," McCarthy writes. "I thought his reaction to my offense was extreme; I tried to say as much. He grunted something in Amharic and prodded me with the tip of his rifle."

That Ethiopian guard probably assumed that Mr. McCarthy was an American Conservative. When the residents of the town realized that McCarthy was a representative of the liberal socialist anti-American Hollywood crowd, they let him go. After all you don't want to kill someone who represents a group who steals from the American taxpayer who in turn supplies their currupt government with an unending source of funding.
Do you thing only Americans are white? The guard didn't know who he was and he did not have the papers he should have been carrying. I am glad things ended peacefully. Unlike you, I don't think that helping people who need help, like people helped Americans during disasters, means that we are entitled to go to someone else's country and break the rules. We have rules too, especially during this time of terrorism.
tothepoint: WHAT people helped Americans during WHICH disaster? For the MOST part it's only ever been Americans helping Americans! Show us who came to OUR aid during a disaster? And I mean REALLY came to our aid-DID something and didn't just promise-sent REAL help...did plane loads of people show up during the any of the quakes in CA recent years? Planes of food and medical supplies? How about during/after Katrina? As a rule we're perfectly capable of helping ourselves, WE don't stand around, gnash our teeth and weep/wail/whine about the situation. But it would sure be nice if someone would extend a REAL helping hand!
WE'RE the first ones that EVERYONE looks to for help, and everyone else in the world EXPECTS US to do it! They wait to see what WE'RE doing! Look at how much the US has been doing since day one of the Haitian situation, how much time/money/medical supplies/food/PEOPLE have flowed into the country...bet if you added up what the entire rest of the world has done it's nowhere near as much...but oh, they sure are in a hurry to criticize!!!
