Angelina Jolie Is Heading to Haiti

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees says its goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie is heading to Haiti to meet with earthquake victims. UNHCR spokesman Andrej Mahecic said Jolie would travel to Haiti later Tuesday. He provided no details of her planned itinerary for security reasons.

The Hollywood star spoke with hospitalized Haitian survivors in the neighboring Dominican Republic on Monday.

Dario Manon is a spokesman for the Dario Contrera Hospital in the capital of Santo Domingo, where dozens of survivors of the Jan. 12 earthquake in neighboring Haiti are receiving medical help.

Manon says Jolie toured the hospital Monday and spoke with several patients. He told reporters: "She spoke with several children and a Haitian woman who recognized her and requested help."

Jolie has previously visited Iraq, Thailand, Pakistan and other countries with UNHCR.

What the heck does she actually do for the UN? I mean, aside from sitting around talking to people, what do these goodwill ambassadors provide to people? Do they build things, help people grow gardens, educate children? Or do they sit in circles looking pensive for a while?
