Louis Gossett Jr., best known for his Oscar-winning performance in the 1982 movie 'An Officer and a Gentleman,' is reportedly fighting the early stages of prostate cancer.According to the Los Angeles-based KTLA, the 73-year-old actor went public with his illness today. The reason: to "set an example for the large number of African-American men who are victims of this disease because of the comparatively low emphasis in our community on preventative examinations and early treatment."

Just want to add my wishes for a speedy recovery and thank you for some of my most pleasurable moments of entertainment.
Rectal exams and colonoscophy are still needed for other reasons, but there are much better tests for determining Pancreatic Cancer that are less invasive. A urine test for PSA3 and/or AMACR will show possible problems much sooner.

To Mr. Lou Gossett Jr.
I can understand your problem with prostate cancer as I was also diaginosed with it in June 2003. Its a shocker, but I have chosen to wait and watch as mine was hopefully slow growing. So for so good. I will pray that what ever you have chosen for treatment will be the right one for you. I have always liked your movies. I am a 72 year old white male who trusts in a Heavenly Father because at best life is short. Take care.

Dear Mr. Gossett, I'm a strange one to be such a fan I guess. I'm a white woman in my fifties that has had a crush on you forever it seems. I admire everything about you. One of my favorite movies is 'Toy Soldiers.'I sat on the edge of my seat hoping you wouldn't get killed. You are excellent in every movie I've had the privilege to see you in. I hope that you are able to get this. Be Strong, stay wise (as I know You ARE) Remember God, He's Thinking of you. Much Love, April P.

My grandfather recently passed away from leukemia that was jump-started by an earlier bout with prostate cancer. I hope that Mr. Gossett recovers and enjoys a nice, long life.
