'Angie! Angie!' Jolie Cheered at Haiti Orphan Camp

Angelina Jolie began two days of meetings with Haiti earthquake victims Tuesday in her role as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. refugee agency. The actress, representing the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, met with U.N. officials in Port-au-Prince and visited an SOS Villages camp for orphans outside the capital, where she was cheered by Haitians yelling, "Angie! Angie!"
That same camp took care of 33 Haitian children after a U.S.-based Baptist group was arrested at the Dominican border trying to take the kids out of the country. It wasn't known if Jolie spoke with any of the children, and journalists were kept at a distance throughout her visit.
The American missionaries have been accused of trying to take the children out of Haiti without proper documentation. The group says it was heading to a Dominican orphanage following Haiti's quake and had only good intentions.
Jolie also toured a Doctors Without Borders hospital in a Port-au-Prince suburb, waving to onlookers. She and partner Brad Pitt have contributed $1 million to Doctors Without Borders for its emergency medical operations in Haiti.
Jolie was meeting with Haitians employed in quake debris cleanup through a joint U.N.-U.S. Agency for International Development program before spending the night at a Brazilian military camp outside the city.
On Wednesday, Jolie planned to visit the southern city of Jacmel, a camp for people made homeless by the quake, as well as a Save the Children relief supply center before returning to Port-au-Prince and leaving for the neighboring Dominican Republic.
Jolie has previously visited Iraq, Thailand, Pakistan and other countries with UNHCR.

well said! to judifem: like the media wasn't already in Haiti! where in the world are you? I'm sure they found A Jolie and stuck by her to get photos to sell.
at least she is there checking on what is going on. what about you since you are so cynical toward her efforts.
I get the feeling Angelina really cares about people and is not doing these things for publicity.

Then why does she always have a publicity crew w/ her when she goes to these places. Did you know that they actually fly w/her and she actually picks which photo will run w/ the story? Her crew kept other journalists at a distance throughout her visit. Her statements are very structured to deter any negative publicity. Wake up people!
I really think Angelina really cares about people, and doesn't do these things just for publicity.

Angie is doing a great thing, giving the children of Haiti hope.she truly cares about what she is doing.I think people have been to hard on her.Angie has been donating, and giving her time to charties for years now,she is very generous, and caring.

I know this probably makes me a terrible person but I chuckled at the thought of Haitian people excited for her arrival because she may adopt someone for her collection. I do however have to say I respect her for her contributions throughout the world and helping those who are less fortunate. To be honest I think that makes her an amazing person.

The only thing that is real about Jolie is her concern for deprived and suffering children. Being so flagrantly a liar about everything else, it is nice to learn she has one redeeming quality.

Hmmm...let me guess..you are a democrat. Hmmmm. IF angie had 3 abortions, hair on her upper lip...and went after jen.....and of course...praised the messiah obama..you would love her. As it is she is a strong Intelligent woman who brings not only her heart and MONEY but her brains to the world's ills. BTW...she brings the camera crew..because probably otherwise we morons would not know so much help is needed.......and it calls attention to the plights of the less fortunate! Way to go fellow american!
One cannot help be be impressed by the humanitarian efforts of Angelina Jolie. She must have a heart that is as big as all outdoors. She seems to view human suffering and her reaction is not to talk about help, but to actually DO something. She has given me faith in human nature and it is my wish that God would bless her heart.

Everything Angelina does has always been self-serving, you obviously do not know her history. Get educated! All the young people think the way you do, people my age 40-50 know better, and Angie does also.

Romastarrr, we are both in the same age group. If you look at this, it was all the women giving praise here. You are right, they really need to be educated and get to know her history and not kick themselves in their teeth!
Old people are dumb
Poor Brad Pitt--guy had everything going for him & than gets involved with this whacko & is seen everywhere carrying around one of these little Haitians!

She does it for the publicity. Funny she has yet to adopt a Haitian baby. Ask yourselves why she doesn't adopt a US born baby...because we have stiffer regulations for adoptive parents i nthe US. We don't want to give our orpahaned babies to nut job whacko women who feed off of them for publicity.

Another bleeding heart liberal from Hollywood making herself feel good and thinking the world sees her as Mother Teresa. Try being good to your own father Angie.

You need to get out more. She reconciled with her father and he reported recently that he spent time with her and all of his grandkids. In fact he was the first to tell the public that the break up rumors were bull.
You know - this would be okay with me except that she isn't wearing a skirt. It's considered highly offensive in Haiti for women to wear anything but a long skirt.
I'm a lawyer and even when I went to work at the orphanages, I wore a skirt. Angie - you probably offended more locals than you helped - research the local customs next time.
