Celine Dion is openly discussing her recent miscarriage for the first time, telling Oprah Winfrey during a taping of her show that while the incident was sad, she and her husband Rene are hoping the fifth time is the charm. "We tried four times to have a child. We're still trying. We're on the fifth try. And I tell you, if five is my lucky number, this fifth try has got to come in," Dion said. Watch the Video Below:During the taping, Dion discussed everything about her tour, life and movie, but it was the discussion about her miscarriage that shed light on a subject she hadn't really explained before.
Dion announced she was pregnant in August of 2009. As the details of the pregnancy came out, we learned that Dion was impregnated using an embryo she had frozen eight years before, in 2001, when she and husband Rene were trying to have a child. They eventually were successful, and gave birth to son Rene-Charles.
Sadly, though, Dion miscarried her most recent pregnancy.
"It's life. You know? A lot of people go through this, but it's not being told because it's not in newspaper. But with us, as you know, it's like, sometimes news are like mercury," she told Winfrey.
Dion says she didn't come out right away with the miscarriage news because the initial reports of her pregnancy were still fresh, and she didn't want to make such an announcement so fast.
"They said that I was pregnant, and a couple of days after, we were not pregnant again. We didn't want to feel like we were playing yo-yo. 'I'm pregnant. I'm not pregnant. I'm pregnant. I'm not pregnant.' So we didn't want to do this thing. But we did have a miscarriage," she said.
Despite the miscarriage, Dion says that she and her husband are "still trying" for another baby. And while she would be thrilled to get pregnant again and have it be successful, Dion says she's happy and blessed no matter what.
"I will be the happiest one to tell you when I'm pregnant. And if not, I'm the luckiest artist, especially wife and mother of a wonderful son. So I'm glad," she said.

thousands of women miscarry every year. what makes hers' worth talking about. i think that celine likes the drama and the attention regardless of what it is about. i guess its true, there is no such thing as bad publicity

you have to remember the celebs are not the ones to want to make news about every little thing, its the media that has nothing better to do then be nosy and get in their personal lives. It should be quite frustrating to them.
She had a miscarriage on Oprah? Ewww, that must have been messy!
I agree with you entirely. I think Celine Dion is a peasant.
Does not have a clue how to conduct an interview and is probably the biggest phoney ever. I absolutely shudder and shake my head whenever I see her interviewed and I have to turn her off. And honestly, who cares if she is pregnant or not.
Wow....as someone who has experienced the hell of a miscarriage...that was stone cold.

ya i kinda thought the same thing...............
Stop the whining. one out of three women have miscarriages. Most don't even know. It is not that special, sad, but not special. Celine is a rich baby
actually It's millions of women not thousands about 1 in 3 pregnancies end in a miscarriage Celine being open about hers is trying to bring awarness no a painful often misunderstood subject that some people try to pass of as nothing but to those it touches it's not nothing and can hurt emotionally for the rest of their lives and she's far from the first celebrity to go through it even some beloved oscar winning actresses have for instance Joanne Woodward who did 6 weeks before she won her best actress oscar in 1958 though it was her first pregnancy not her second as this was Celines and she eventually had three beautiful daughters as Celine has a handsome young son

Generally speaking, the older a woman is, the harder it is for most to have a full-term pregnancy. The risks of having a less-than-100%-healthy baby goes up as well. She at least has one child by birth, can always adopt, have a surrogate, along with so many other ways of having more than one child. Her career, which took precedence, gives her the financial options most women don't have. As much as I appreciate her as an entertainer, no one should feel sorry for her.

Let me get this straight. Celine is a woman of means, so losing a baby is no big deal...she can just go out and adopt or surrogate?
OMG..how lame can you be? People out there till have hearts and souls. I suggest you go out and buy one...even barter for one, if you can.
Kag, what hit a nerve? Her career was first in her life, even taking days off of speaking. She is old, and her husband is ancient. Undying egos of the rich and famous. Can you say Sarah Jessica Parker. Her kid will be in first grade and she will be over 50. sucks.
You are disgusting. What right do you have to say "no one should feel sorry for her"? A miscarriage is a painful experience for any woman, particularly if she wanted a child as badly as Ms. Dion obviously did by going through such an elaborate process to get pregnant again. You are obscene and heartless.
It doesn't matter whether you are a celeb or an everyday person, a miscarriage is a hard thing to live with. The fact that she has had so many and is still trying and able to speak about it shows her strength.

I think it's a good idea to call attention to miscarriages. My daughter had one and it is a loss. You wonder what the baby would look like if he or she had lived. It stays with you, no matter how long ago. If a mother gives birth to a stillborn, sometimes the hospital takes pictures, the parents give the baby a name, have a burial, all of which bring closure. But with a miscarriage, you don't have any of that-just the feeling of loss. Don't judge people until you have walked in their shoes.

Exactly. My daughter went through the same thing last year. This year, in June, she is due with a baby girl. So far, this time, so good. But, until this child is born healthy, we still have our fingers crossed and are praying daily.
Miscarriages are horrible, celeb or not. Here's this pregnancy you're excited about, and a baby you already love. Then suddenly, you're at the hospital, going through what is essentially labor, without the amazing reward at the end!
Its awful. Which is why many women are so scared and hesitant and nervous the second time around.

Right on Grammy - you hit the nail on the head. I had 2 miscarriages before and after my son who is now 33. He is the lucky one who made it (almost didn't) and we thank God everyday for him. He is most wonderful and kind son anyone could ever ask for and we are so proud of him. I wish the other 2 could have made it..I know first hand what it's like to lose a child.

another mom: having a miscarriage and losing a child are two totally different things.
youngblood: true having a miscarriage and losing a child are two totally different things, but it doesn't mean that miscarriage is not a devastating, painful LOSS.
