Mama DeGeneres got a special gift from one of the world's most famous judges (no, not you, Scalia) -- her daughter, Ellen. It seems that for her big debut night on 'American Idol,' Ellen said no to a fancy dinner offer from Simon and chose to watch the show with the woman who raised her instead. How cute and classy! Ellen Would Rather Celebrate 'Idol' Debut With Mom, Not Simon

Along with the millions of viewers that tuned in last night to watch Ellen DeGeneres make her 'American Idol' debut was one very special viewer indeed -- her mom.

"Ellen invited her mom and a close friend over to her house to watch along with everyone else in America," a friend of the new judge tells me. "It was super causal with pizza, salad and a few glasses of champagne to celebrate. Plus a home-made cake from her number one fan -- Mama DeGeneres.

"Simon had suggested all the judges go out to dinner to celebrate, but Ellen decided she would rather celebrate her joining America's number one show with her close friends and family," the pal said.

We thought you did great, Ellen. I'm sure mom did too!

Why Brangelina Is Fighting Back

For years, the tabloid speculation about the status of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's relationship has been largely ignored by the parents of six. So why now has the couple decided to fight back with legal action against British paper News of the World? The simple answer is because of Brad's mom.

It's easy to forget that the most famous couple in the world has moms and dads and brothers and sisters, all with feelings and concerns. It seems though that they've learned to ignore the tabloids but not cable news.

Maybe this lawsuit will make some publications think twice before being all naughty and not nice!

In what might be the best book party ever thrown, Joan Rivers invited a bunch of fabulous people to her $25 million penthouse apartment to celebrate the launch of daughter Melissa Rivers' brilliant new book 'Red Carpet Ready: Secrets for Making the Most of Any Moment You're in the Spotlight.'

I didn't make it onto Joan's list and was getting close to being asked to leave before her wonderful niece Caroline turned up and whisked me in. That turned out to be brilliant, because only I got to see Joan grab Caroline's hand and disappear for a good 10 minutes before returning with her niece, now in full hair and make-up.

Joan, you really are Auntie Mame.

Couldn't tell U if she was good or bad saw 2 mins of tues night and that was enough for me. No more Idol the biggest mistake they could have made was putting her on the show. Her talk show is a joke and this would be funny if it was April 1.
