Kara DioGuardi Not Singing Stern's Praises As Possible 'Idol' Judge

A current 'American Idol' judge has finally spoken up about the reports that Howard Stern could take Simon Cowell's chair at the judges' table, and she seems less than thrilled by the prospect.

Kara DioGuardi claimed in a Wednesday morning 'Idol' press conference that she doesn't know if Stern is truly going to take the spot, but she clearly wasn't keen on the idea.

"I don't think he has a musical background or any kind of music... um... anything," she said, declining to mention the shock jock by name. "If you are going to replace Simon, you have to have that background. Someone who knows about signing great artists and being a part of their career from the very beginning like (Simon) has done."

"That's probably a precursor for whomever takes that position if they are not a big artist that has been through it themselves," DioGuardi added.

By those standards, indeed, Stern probably would not make it to Hollywood Week, which continues tonight. She did point out on the Stern discussion: "Right now, that's just a rumor."

Also a rumor, and a bad one at that -- the reports of on-set tension between Cowell and new judge Ellen DeGeneres. "These things are just ridiculous," said DioGuardi. "Last year, it was Kara and Paula (Abdul) fighting each other. Kara sits in the corner."

"You have to take any rumor you hear about 'American Idol' with a grain of salt. They are usually not true."

On Ellen's first night, DioGuardi declined to give a letter grade. "I think she did great," she added.

Howard Stern's an a**hole.
Idol needs someone who's from the music biz, as Simon is.
Stern's audience is of a different groove, apt to bring Idol down to his level...and that ain't good.

AladdinSane, you must be kidding. "Someone from the music biz", like Ellen, right? What a joke. This show is circling the drain and the producers know it. Regardless of what you may think of Stern, if they put him on there - people will watch. The producers know that, too. He said he'd do it for 100 million.

Howard stern has no music talent? are you nutts!! He turned records for years, decades of talk radio, music programmer for WNBC!! WTF, tell me the talent that is on Idol now!! Howard would bring 20 mill viewers that listen to him now!! He made Sirius and worked for every penny they paid him, unlike a African/American Billionaire on Sirius.

I can't stand him - he's a gross pig! I will NOT watch if he is on. No Ellen doesn't have a musical background but she is adorable and funny. Stern has neither of those qualities

Yes Howard has worked in radio all his adult life as did his father and has "no experience in music"...hello?

But Ellen, now there is a keen musical mind!

Howard may be a jerk at times, but so is Simon. I think he's the perfect replacement for the heart of AI. They could not do better!

If they cannot land the great Stern then I hope they pick Gene Simmons. He's a character and has plenty of musical experience. 2nd best choice imho

Anybody that had a hand in writing "No Boundaries" should keep her opinions to herself. The most cloying manipulative pukey god awful song ever written. I've seen Kara's resume and she must have those Lucky Lips to have gotten as far as she has in the music industry. Lucky Lips are often way more important than talent.

Stern will denigrate these people to the lowest level...meaning his own level. Simon knows his boundaries and can spot talent. Stern lacks any real talent and will bring that negativty to the show at the expense of anything or anyone, including the other judges. We wouldn't bother to watch that's for certain. Get someone with some class who's an ACTUAL SINGER maybe???!!!

umm i'm sure he can control himself he was on the radio for many many years before going to sirius...he left because he couldnt express himself the way he wanted to and because of the content he wanted the show to have..when the show was fined was because of guests language and the topics.

I don't understand why AI doesn't hire David Foster to replace Simon next year. He has all of the qualifications, can be pretty testy when necessary and has a string of major hits as well as having discovered most of the well known singers of our time.

What is wrong with the producers and sponsers of this show. First they get the lesbian Ellen who should not be there. Now Stern who is a pig with little respect for anyone. Why do the producers and sponsers continue to enable these people they are sick. BOYCOTT THE SHOW AND THE SPONSERS. LET STERN'S AND THE LESBIAN AND GAY MOVEMET BUY THEIR PRODUCTS.
