Magazines Photoshop Stars' Post-Baby Pounds Away
By Amber James Posted Feb 11th 2010 05:15PM
Before you pick up that latest issue of OK! Magazine featuring Kendra Wilkinson's post-baby bod, consider the fact that she only gave birth eight weeks ago. Thank you, Photoshop. These "reveals" are a definite cash-cow for magazines, but these weight loss covers are clearly coming prematurely. Perhaps the weight-obsessed culture has pushed magazines to succumb to the instant gratification of losing pounds seemingly overnight. But how long can entertainment magazines get away with photoshopping a celebrity into a size zero for their covers?

There is no question about it -- celebrity baby stories sell. But recently, post-baby body reveals have become such a magazine staple, they'll stop at nothing to scoop the story. After seeing Wilkinson's latest OK! cover, it's obvious that it doesn't matter if the person is in shape or not because a magazine can just photoshop the hell out of a picture just to get it out there. For some reason, we keep buying into this blurred reality and false advertising.
The sad reality is these magazine covers are edited to death, even if person is thin (remember Demi Moore's controversial W cover?) Honestly, Wilkinson might as well have debuted her skinny figure one day after giving birth. The photo would have turned out the same.
Although Wilkinson claimed to have gained 55 pounds during her recent pregnancy, her new cover suggests she "lost 25 pounds in 8 weeks." Hmm, these numbers just don't add up.
In a recent PopEater poll, over 29,400+ PopEater readers voted, and 82 percent thought Wilkinson's photo was heavily photoshopped and not her real body.
The magazine's track record was questioned last week after it debuted Kourtney Kardashian's slim post-pregnancy look. Kardashian slammed OK! saying the magazine "doctored and Photoshopped my body to make it look like I have already lost all the weight, which I have not." Kardashian even voiced her disgust on Twitter about reports of her extreme weight loss: "One of those weeklies got it wrong again. They didn't have an exclusive with me. And I gained 40 pounds while pregs, not 26... But thanks!"
While new moms around the world breathed a sigh of relief, the magazine didn't spend a minute hesitating to debut its new Wilkinson photo. Haven't women had enough of these false weight stories? "It's so easy to drop 10 pounds of baby weight," the covers yell from the supermarket stands.Forget the trainers, possible surgeries (or the fact that these stars are paid to be skinny): everyone can be thin right after giving birth, the magazines claim. Right. At this rate, Kirstie Alley will be on the cover next week, rocking her size 4 bikini bod.
Is it any wonder why women and even young girls have body issues? Now they have to live up to a photoshopped version of Barbie? These skillfully manipulated photos have taken away the allure of debuting hot post-pregnancy photos.
It's no secret that Americans are constantly looking for diet secrets. But at what cost is it to the consumer who is buying into these photoshopped covers? Does the truth even matter anymore?
Of course, Wilkinson and Kardashian will be back to their skinny sizes soon, but it's the rush to push out manipulated cover stories that doesn't sit well with us.

Between baby, fluids and placenta, she probably lost 25 pounds the day the baby was born. So your 55 minus 25 does not equal zero remark is stupid.

you're obviously either a man, or a woman who has never had a baby. Between baby, fluids, and placenta, the average weight loss at birth is 10-12 lbs. NOT 25.
Actually after each of my 4 children, I was only 4 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight 1 day after birth...but sitting around, nursing, and not sleeping made me gain the weight that was hard to lose...it's not the pregnancy, it's the way your life changes afterward....I think lack of sleep and being less mobile because of a baby are worse...
yes usually it is between 10-12 lbs but the baby was over 9lbs. so i would think she probably lost 12-15
I lost over 55 pounds the day after giving birth. Some of the weight is from water retention. When a baby is as big as Kendras, the water retention can be 25 or 30 pounds. She is also very young and young women tend to lose weight and retain water. Also the best way to lose weight after a birth is to nurse your baby. A 9 pound baby would eat a lot. Women seem to be able to eat a lot and not gain weight while nursing. Stop being so judgemental?
uhhh, I'm not so sure about that. I lost about 15 lbs after 2 weeks of having my baby, not that very day. And yea it IS tough to lose that wait, especially if you dont have a personal cook and a personal trainer like I'm sure these ladies have access to.
It's all crap anyway !!

wow, if you read any part of that story, acctualy lets just take the front cover "25lbs in 8 weeks" so thats means, she lost the 10-12lbs on the day of birth, then ANOTHER 25lbs in the 8 weeks following birth, that adds up to at least 36 total lost pounds pending if her birth weight loss was average and not over that 10-12lbs.
so
As long as the idiots keep buying the nasty gossip rags they will keep altering the pictures and printing lies. Boycott them. I havent't bought or read a rag since they killed Princess Di. Stop buying the crap and they will stop and go out of business. Duh

HERE HERE! I do not buy those mags or watch those celebrity shows. I will not pay the high prices to attend a movie. My family and I have a healthy full life and do noy have to follow celebrity. Get a life everyone!
But however the fact remains, thousands of loser women buy that crap everyday. I never could understand why. perhaps its denail of their own pethetic life, or maybe its that genetic thing in women to constantly oo and awe at people who supposely have life better than them. Either way it'll never end till women gain an IQ higher than their bust size.
My mom saw Kendra and her husband at the Lakers/Pacers game in Indianapolis. She said she didn't look like she'd lost much of her baby weight at all and she was scarfing down nachos when they showed her on the jumbo screen. It's totally normal for her to have not lost her baby weight yet; I'm currently pregnant and dreading how long it will take to shed those pounds. It's deceitful on her part if she's saying she lost all this weight and hasn't, although I wouldn't put it past this trashy rag to put words in her mouth.

I have had five babies. You can lose 25lbs in 8 weeks of you were carrying a lot of water at the end. With my fifth baby I lost 40 lbs in two weeks after giving birth because of all the water weight. It's a hard thing to judge.

I gained 50lbs during my pregnancy - much like Kendra. Also, I had a LOT of fluid retention - just like Kendra appeared to have. I had a 9 1/2lb baby - JUST LIKE KENDRA. I lost THIRTY FIVE POUNDS in the three days I was in the hospital. I was in the bathroom every thirty minutes, getting rid of all the fluid build up, plus a nearly 10 pound baby and all the other "things" that go along with birth and I lost the 35lbs. So, out of the 50 POUNDS - I was left with only 15 pounds. I lost it in under 6 weeks. So, it's not impossible that Kendra has done the same. Even if she hasn't - WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL. THE WOMAN JUST HAD A BABY. GIVE HER A BREAK. THIS MAGAZINE SHOULD BE SUED. I'M SICK OF IT. Give Kendra a break but don't buy this magazine. Thankfully, Kardashian came out and told the truth about what they had done to her and her photos. this kind of pressure on women needs to stop and it won't as long as women keep buying these magazines. I guarantee you that it's not men buying OK magazine. Just STOP buying it and THEY will stop.

What about Kendra and all of these premadonas start to say NO to this circus? So sad:(
Who the hell is Kendra Wilkinson, and why should anyone care what she looks like in a bikini?

It' SO possible. If she's breastfeeding, she could easily have gotten back into shape in 8 weeks. 8 weeks after I had my first child, my stomach was flatter than before I became pregnant.

exactle. i only gained 25lbs and walked out of the hospital in a smaller size then before i was el preggo. so for how much she lost having the baby in with training you caould loose the other 25 espicalley if you breasfeed, with no problem
