Kevin Smith Kicked Off Southwest Flight for Being Too Fat

Kevin Smith is not a happy Southwest customer.
The director was thrown off a flight from Oakland to Burbank, after being deemed too fat to fly. He would later end up on another Southwest flight and now he's expressing his anger on Twitter.
"Dear @SouthwestAir - I know I'm fat, but was Captain Leysath really justified in throwing me off a flight for which I was already seated?" her began.
"Dear @SouthwestAir, I flew out in one seat, but right after issuing me a standby ticket, Oakland Southwest attendant Suzanne (wouldn't give last name) told me Captain Leysath deemed me a "safety risk". Again: I'm way fat... But I'm not THERE just yet. But if I am, why wait til my bag is up, and I'm seated WITH ARM RESTS DOWN. In front of a packed plane with a bunch of folks who'd already I.d.ed me as 'Silent Bob,'" Smith
continued in a succession of
several tweets.
Smith even
posted a photo of himself on the plane.
Then he
got a
little angrier. "So, @SouthwestAir, go f--- yourself. I broke no regulation, offered no "safety risk" (what, was I gonna roll on a fellow passenger?). I was wrongly ejected from the flight (even Suzanne eventually agreed). And f--- your apologetic $100 voucher, @SouthwestAir. Thank God I don't embarrass easily (bless you, JERSEY GIRL training). But I don't sulk off either: so everyday, some new f----you Tweets for @SouthwestAir."
Southwest issued a response on
Twitter. "I've read the tweets all night from @thatkevinsmith - He'll be getting a call at home from our Customer Relations VP tonight."
"@ThatKevinSmith Again, I'm very sorry for the experience you had tonight. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do," the Southwest twitterer
added.
But Smith didn't
stop. "The @SouthwestAir Diet. How it works: you're publicly shamed into a slimmer figure. Crying the weight right off has never been easier!"
And he wanted to let the airline know he had made it to his
destination. "Hey @SouthwestAir! I've landed in Burbank. Don't worry: wall of the plane was opened & I was airlifted out while Richard Simmons supervised."

Considering most Americans are overweight, I find it interesting the amount of prejudice expressed...maybe being skinny makes one cranky. If the arm rest was down, he should have been left alone. How many of us have had to endure a irritated child or a person spreading their gear all over the place or a drunk or an over perfumed person next to us? It would make the skinnies happy to have us all pay by pound for seats but the whiners will have to pay for the airline bailouts or do they expect us to? my
money is green just like yours. Are they going to charge overwieght people more for the larger first class seats too?

They should start an airline for overweight people-AIR SHAMU

Guess it's time for Celebrity Fit Camp! Kevin, you are a funny, funny man!

If the armrest goes down, then the passenger should stay. Though I once sat by a woman on an American flight... or rather she sat on me during the flight. I came away with bruises. Luckily the flight was only 2 hours. In the least, the flight attendant should have moved one of us to an unoccupied seat. If you take up two seats, pay for two seats, but you have to be a really big person to take up two seats! Kevin, I think you are just fine. You should have stayed on the plane.

The best part of buying two seats is that they only allow you to seat in one. They will give the seat next to you away to someone else. Where is the logic in that?
Reply
If you are too fat to fit in a seat like everyone else, then you are too fat! Buy 2 tickets.

How Fat is Kevin Smith (Ht & Wt, please). Then I can discern if the boot was justified.

Trust me Kevin, you're not missing out on anything. I flew that airline once, and I swore never again.

There is a big difference between someone that carries a little extra weight and someone that takes up 2 seats on an airplane. Its already cramped enough as it is.

It's abuse, humilitation and discrimination...sue sue sue...time for heavy folks to stop the abuse by others! It is not ok.
Reply
maybe Southwest should start charging their customers by the pound instead of them buying tickets !lol

I'm sorry...he is a big guy but not THAT big! I would have no problem sitting my skinny ass right next to his...he has every right to a seat. Stupid airline.

That's just wrong! Just one of many reasons I NEVER fly! I just hope Kevin gets his anger out before he starts writing "Hit Somebody" (the hockey movie he said he is doing next).

Kevin Smith should not have been treated this way. The seat rests were already down, so he wasn't taking up anybody else's seat. The seat rests were down! THEY WERE DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!

if southwest wants to make him happy, they ought to start by firing the jackass that kicked him off the plane.

Is that Celebrity Fit Club calling?
