'My Sharona' Singer, Doug Fieger, Dead at 57

Doug Fieger, leader of the power pop band The Knack, who sang on the 1979 hit 'My Sharona,' died Sunday. He was 57. Fieger died at his home in Woodland Hills near Los Angeles after a long battle with cancer, according to The Knack's manager, Jake Hooker. Fieger battled cancer for six years.
In 2006, he underwent surgery to remove two tumors from his brain. He is survived by a sister, Beth Falkenstein, and a brother, Geoffrey Fieger. A memorial service for friends and family is being planned.
Fieger formed The Knack in Los Angeles 1978, and the group quickly became a staple of Sunset Strip rock clubs. A year later he co-wrote and sang lead vocals on 'My Sharona.'
Their songs, about young love and teenage lust, included the hits 'Good Girls Don't,' 'She's So Selfish' and 'Frustrated.'
The Knack continued to release albums and tour through the mid-2000s, but they never replicated the success they enjoyed with their first two albums, 'Get the Knack' and '... But the Little Girls Understand.'

I love the Knack having seen them play many times. I have the bass players autograph. I learned that he is also a classical pianist and teaches piano. So sorry to hear about Doug. Their persona on stage was kind of a snotty sha-na-na act but in person only the best was seen.

His brother Geoffrey was Jack kouvorkians attorney.

His brother, Jeff Fieger, is very well known in Michigan. He was the one who represented Dr. Kevorkian (Dr. Death) for so many years. Kevorkian only went to prison after Jeff Fieger was no longer representing him.

Wow..RIP Doug.. I was a 17 yr. old mother's helper out on Fire Island NY when that song came out. Just about EVRYONE was singing or humming that song; teens, tweens, older folks. Talk about the lightning in a bottle. I played that album til it snapped, crackled and popped!!lol It was a good time.

Those that don't like the hits by The Knack are most likely too young to remember the '70's. However, everyone is entitled to their opinion. The Knack is certainly recognized in the Power Pop genre of music whether you like them or not. Doug, RIP!

My thoughts exactly, no one cares right now that his brother was Kevorkian's attorney or that you didn't care for the band. Rest in peace Mr. Fieger and my sympathies to family, friends, and fans.
That song "My Sharona" rocked. The song was way before its time. If it was put out now it would hit the charts big time.
