'My Sharona' Singer, Doug Fieger, Dead at 57

Doug Fieger, leader of the power pop band The Knack, who sang on the 1979 hit 'My Sharona,' died Sunday. He was 57. Fieger died at his home in Woodland Hills near Los Angeles after a long battle with cancer, according to The Knack's manager, Jake Hooker. Fieger battled cancer for six years.
In 2006, he underwent surgery to remove two tumors from his brain. He is survived by a sister, Beth Falkenstein, and a brother, Geoffrey Fieger. A memorial service for friends and family is being planned.
Fieger formed The Knack in Los Angeles 1978, and the group quickly became a staple of Sunset Strip rock clubs. A year later he co-wrote and sang lead vocals on 'My Sharona.'
Their songs, about young love and teenage lust, included the hits 'Good Girls Don't,' 'She's So Selfish' and 'Frustrated.'
The Knack continued to release albums and tour through the mid-2000s, but they never replicated the success they enjoyed with their first two albums, 'Get the Knack' and '... But the Little Girls Understand.'

I love that song it was fun !
C'mon, in the 70's there were a lot of not so good bands, remember the one hit wonders? I used to take my son to the "roller rink" skating, when that song would play all the kids were out there! It was fun then. R.I.P.

Doug Fieger was mad cool...so was his band. I'm very influenced by The Knack's sound, look, & stereo-panned guitars. Very underrated band that needs more acknowlegement than they had...I don't know him as a man, but I feel I know him as a musical brother,he was so cool.....

The Knack kicked ass. Period. I saw them about 2 years ago and they were one of the loudest bands I have ever seen. Some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. A very under-rated band that deserves more than just a foot note in music history. Sad to hear about Doug. RIP

I'm so sorry to hear about Doug Fieger's passing :( I met him once years ago in Santa Cruz and he and the whole band were super sweet and nice. My Sharona will remain a classic for a generation and beyond...cute, catchy and an all around fun song. It was on my list of songs at my wedding three years ago and everyone was singing along. I am now battling cancer myself, so I also praise his couragous fight for so long. May he rest in peace.
