I don't think anyone should feel upset that the Precious actress
didn't get included on the Vanity Fair cover. She's been in one movie, albeit a high-profile movie that is getting a lot of critical acclaim. Those "slim, white" young ladies who made it on the cover each have a much fuller resume. I think this so-called outrage is a little ridiculous - people need to get over it, not everything is about race.

Sidibe is not the best example. There are several "slim" non-white young ladies with "fuller resumes" that could have been included.
Tyler Wood is a racist all his women are white young and beautiful, by the way who is this one?????????
I really don't think anyone is really tripping on it. Who cares about Vanity Fair or the white girls on it. She did her thing and like she said is greatful for the attention she is getting and don't care about the attention she isn't. White people like to make issues bigger than they are in hopes that they can get a negative response to make themselves look like the better people. But we all know that Black, Asian, Hispanic all tops white any day.
Well I'm glad that YOU feel that way but I, a light skinned latina didn't see it that way. People ask why do blacks and latinos have there own magazines and it because of these moment here. It's suppose to be Hollywood HOTTEST and the left out several popular young ladies. I know they can't have them all but i would have like to seen a couple of them to be of different races, sizes, and culture. Now I do like some of the ladies on the cover but i would had like to see a more diverse group.. and not beyounce cause frankly she not a good actress.. but maybe j.hudson or zoe saldana. I think that maybe this should be a wake call to have a more diverse hollywood , it has gotten better but still have ways to go. Please real actress too, not every singer/ pop tart or reality star can act...lol...
I've seen this girl on Leno. What a wonderful personality.
I hope she does well in her career.
boo hoo! boo!hoo! cry those tears not. she only has one film to her credit. and she to FAT to be on Vanitys cover period. and after precious disappears so will she. Back to whatever she was doing before. are there not enough Black magazines she can cover on?

In my opinion, Ms. Sidibe is not an actress. She fit the physical requirements for the role only. That is why she was cast. She has never acted in her life before being cast in the movie. IOt is almost a disservice to this funny, bright young lady! She will probably never act again in a movie, unless she loses weight. That is the truth. The cover of Vanity fair was occupied by established actresses who have previous roles/acting jobs under their belts.

Nikki, she's already got her next gig lined up; she's gonna be on "The C Word" on Showtime with Laura Linney.
The truth is .... she is an Oscar nominee that alone is enough to warrant a cover. Yes she is a large woman but she was choosen to play the role because this is not her life or her story (the director had hundreds of young actresses but felt he would be exploiting them because their lives were simmilar to the character of Presious - so he choose Gaby).
Actress? Like it is a real job? This girl never did it before and she will get an academy nod because it takes no time to learn and no time to learn. She is a ntural actress. Is there such thing as a natural surgeon? Of course not. It takes years of training. Acting takes no such thing as this young girl shows. Just off the street. It is not a talent. Please. Actress/actor, it is far from a talent that time can build upon. There is no way to qualify this as talent. This girl is a better actress than any on the cover.
Nikki the truth is you do not know wtf you are talking about, keep your mouth closed thanks.
To bthread,
have you ever acted before? It is actually a skill that needs years of honing to master, and even then you may not be good. True, some of it is dependant on born talent, but it is just as hard to learn as any other skill if you want to be great at it. And it is something to build upon, because most actors know how to work with people, get things done, and solve conflicts, which are great skills to have in life.
As for Gaboury, she is an anamoly. She is actually good actress right off the bat. I wish her the best.
First of who owns the magazine? Whoever they are they have the right to decide WHO they want on the cover. Enough already with all this Racist crap all the time. Grow-up people and get with the times, it's 2010 not 1900's. If I owned the Magazine I would choose to put who ever I wanted on the cover and the person or persons I choose to put on the cover is not for others to question. If you don't like who's on the cover then start your own Magazine and put who ever you want on your cover, but stop telling others what to do and how to run there business all the time.

Of course there is no racism in the world because after all it is 2010.
I have not seen her movie but have followed the rave reviews of her role in it. As a man of color, I enjoy looking at women of all colors on magazines.
I agree that the magazine has a right to have anyone it chooses to grace their front cover. If Vanity Fair has a tradition of having Academy Award nominees on their cover page, I can understand the outrage. Also, why was there no outrage when that actress from Fargo did not make the cover? She paled into insignificance since viewers realized that she did not put on that Mid-West accent. Rather, it came naturally to her.
Finally, Vanity Fair is all about selling magazines just like other magazines. Would readers be more inclined to buy the mag if this actress was plastered across the front cover? Let's face it - She is not the most attractive woman, even as non-white women go. Just calling it like I see it. Too much of this racist-crap-for-no-reason floating around. Yes, once again I am a Black man.
I like Gabourey's attitude about the whole thing! In other words, "Who gives a damn, as long as I got mine!" A lot of people have it twisted thinking that because this young lady is overweight, she will never get another shot at acting. The size don't make a person. It's a lot of skinny heifers, white, black and any other color in Hollywood that can't act worth a damn!!! Congrats Gabourey, you do the damn thang and don't let no one tell you that you can never make it!!! God made this possible didn't He?!!

Ms Sidibe has a great attitude. It appears that she is not letting all this sudden attention go to her head. I hope she gets many more parts in the future, if she wishes to have an acting career.
Not everyone in this world is slim so her weight should not prevent her from acting. I do, however, hope she loses some weight, not to be skinny or even slim, but enough to reduce her chances of obesity-related health problems.

Well said Lucy. Let us wish her well and encourage thankfulness, for success and prosperity are fleeting things, but gracious spirit builds character.
