With all of the damage done by the late-night wars that eventually led to Conan O'Brien's ouster and Jay Leno reclaiming the 'Tonight Show' gig once again, you'd think that subtlety and good-guy cheer would be the way to go for NBC and Jay as they try to wash their hands of the mess. With all of the damage done by the late-night wars that eventually led to Conan O'Brien's ouster and Jay Leno reclaiming the 'Tonight Show' gig once again, you'd think that subtlety and good-guy cheer would be the way to go for NBC and Jay as they try to wash their hands of the mess. Not so much. In a new commercial for the return of Leno to 'Tonight,' they clearly use the ad not just as a reminder that Jay's back at a new time after the Olympics, but to claim that Conan never belonged there in the first place. In the commercial, Leno is seen driving down California's glorious Pacific Coast Highway in a Shelby Cobra. Leno, a classic car enthusiast, is seen tearing down the highway with a "10" decal on the side of the car, alluding to his old and failed time slot. After a quick smile, Leno shifts gears in the car, and the "10" decal flies off to reveal one that says "11:35."
That's not so bad, right? Well, the real stinger is in the soundtrack.
During the ad, Leno is coasting to the Beatles tune 'Get Back,' which just as the time changes on the car's decals declares "Get back to where you once belonged."
So, is NBC saying that Conan never deserved the seat they gave him and then took away? Keep in mind, Conan can't say anything -- disparaging or not -- about NBC and his fallout with the network until September thanks to his $45 million settlement.
So, as Leno readies for his March re-debut, we just hope he and NBC can keep things classy and not resort to beating a dead, red-headed horse.

Am I missing something? This isn't the ad I'm seeing. The ad that's showing on my screen is Jay driving with the 10 on his car an then it says "11:35". Then as he drives away his license says "FALL". Music is "Hold On", not "Get Back". What am I missing here? Well, in any case, it won't be Jay. I'm there whenever he gets back on. Ta Ta Conan. Jay's The Man.

Leno is not doing himself any favors. He is aware that the public was on Conan's side, and that slowly, Leno is losing his fan base. I hope that is true. He deserves little for putting Conan out of business. Shame on him. Watch him? Never again. Conan exited as a true gentleman, something Leno will never be. He needs to take one of his many cars, and drive off into the sunset! Bye, bye!

I'm 59 with a BA in linguistics. I think Jay Leno is uncreative, unfunny, and appeals to the dull minded. His jokes are so old you know the punchline before he says them. Steve Allen did them first. Now that's old school, very, very old school.
I have never seen any performer with so much lack of originality as Jay Leno.
They both stink,,NBC should just rerun Carsons tonight Show,,nobody can ever replace Johnny..Ed and Doc..

Jay has a huge ego,, I cant stand him. Dave, hes kind of funny at times. I wouldnt stay awake to watch him though. Conan has a sweet kind of humor, and dont trash others down nearly as bad as jay. Jay is a back stabbing man, he has only looked out for him self through the years. Then lies about most everything to get ahead in life. Not someone I would want to know, or bother to watch on tv. I cant wait until hes over and gone, for good. I never seen anyone as arrogant as jay.

I LOVE Jay Leno, he is the Tonight Show. Conan, no talent there, why they pushed Jay off the Tonight Show in the first place was just total Hollywood Idiocy. I can't wait until he returns, I never watched when Conan took over because I think he sucks, and apparently so do many others. Jay is the Tonight Show, just as Johnny Carson was the Tonight Show, end of story.

I don't know what ad the writer saw or possibly dreamed but the embedded ad with this story is not the ad he descibes. the decal never flies off & the music is not the Beatles - Get Back...

What nonsense! If anything, it's self-deprecating for Jay. "Get back" makes sense, and "to where you ONCE belonged," if anything, is saying JAY did not belong there. It is, in effect, saying Coco BELONGS there.

Leno's profile looks like a crescent moon! Icky!! I used to watch him at 11:35 but will not again. He and NBC treated Conan very badly. I remember 5 yrs. ago when Jay announced his retirement in 5 years because he wanted to spend time with his real love, his cars and wife! He said he would turn the reins over to Conan. Then when it came time, he changed his mind and all this bull transpired because of him. I'm waiting for Conan to return and I'm sure he will. As for Tiger Woods, I thought his speech was sincere, truthful and thorough. Considering the low moral fabric of so very many athletes today, everyone should forgive Tiger. However, if I were Elin, I probably, over time could forgive him, but never take him back. All those trashy women blabbing all that dirt all over the place, and realizing most of it is true, the humiliation and pain of all this, would be far past the point of no return for me. Maybe she is a sainted woman and can do it. We will see.

Sounds like the critilcs are so eager to make a headline that they mis-interpret the ad. Clearly, they are telling Jay to geet back to where he belongs. No slight to Conan.
