Road Report: Vedera Rev Up at the Daytona 500
By Vedera Posted Feb 19th 2010 05:15PM
Last fall, Vedera made an appearance on MTV's 'The Hills' that launched them into buzz band territory. The Kansas City natives performed their debut single, 'Satisfy,' and were filmed spending time with the cast backstage.
Now, the pop-rock four-piece is back in the limelight, touring with Jack's Mannequin and Fun in support of their current album, 'Stages.' In their latest Road Report, lead singer Kristen May talks about their west coast dates as well as what it was like performing at NASCAR's Daytona 500.
And the adventure continues...
Last we spoke I think we were getting ready for our show in SLC, Utah. Besides the green room being sub-zero temperatures and the sound on stage giving us some trouble (at one point Brian's amp sounded like it blew up, came back to life and sizzled for a couple songs), the show was great. The crowd was excited and we met a lot of new people after the show, along with some returning friends/fans. Since we had a day off the next day, all the bands were in good spirits and we managed to have a pretty good after show hang with everybody.
Sacramento was our next stop and we played Sacramento State University. One thing you can always be sure of when you play college shows, they HOOK YOU UP! There is always way too much food at these gigs, so we try and make it a point to sneak out whatever we can at the end of the night ;). Thanks Sacro!
The next day found us waking at 3 a.m. with another day of driving, this time through the desert. These drives are pretty gorgeous, they just go on forever ;). After stopping for some coffee midway to Vegas in a casino/ribeye buffet joint, we were re-energized, and on we traveled looking for the bright lights of Sin City.

Epic
The Las Vegas show was my favorite on stage so far. We had a great time playing and killed our set :). There wasn't much time to celebrate though, because Brian and I had to hop in a cab to the airport where we boarded the red-eye flight to Daytona Beach, Florida. Upon arriving at Daytona at noon, I had a second to catch my breath before I stepped on stage and sang the National Anthem for the Daytona 500 qualifying race they do the day before the big race. I have to say it was a BLAST! That night we played a private show for the owners of Nascar and met everyone involved with the event. Going into this experience my knowledge of Nascar was the cartoon 'Cars' and that Will Ferrell movie where he plays Ricky Bobby. I can now proudly say I'm fairly educated on the race and can say this for sure: they know how to party!
After hanging around the race the next day and grabbing some Valentine's grub with our manager and his girlfriend (thanks Steve!), Brian and I were exhausted. The traveling wasn't over yet though -- the next morning we were up at 5 a.m. for our flight to San Antonio to meet up with the guys. I missed them! :)
This morning we played Great Day San Antonio, and I managed to take a three-hour long nap after and am just now waking up to contemplate the rest of the day. Tonight we play the White Rabbit here in San Antonio, a venue we've played a time or two and I'm looking forward to trekking the dusty streets of SA. But not before lunch. ;)
All our love,
Vedera
