Simon Cowell: Howard Stern Not 'Idol' Material

Add Simon Cowell to the list of people not thrilled with the rumor that Howard Stern could fill his spot on 'American Idol.'

Stern doesn't have the experience to sit in his seat, the exiting judge Cowell said yesterday.

"You've just got to know what you're talking about," Cowell said, according to the Daily News. "We have to have people on these shows who actually know what they're talking about, rather than just guessing. They've really got to have experience, so that they can not just criticize, but offer constructive advice as well."

Cowell was "fairly certain" Stern hasn't been approached by 'Idol' producers to fill the spot when he leaves the show to host his own 'X Factor' show. The Stern 'Idol' rumor has run rampant on the Internet and has been partially fanned by the radio show host himself.

Cowell also said Madonna would not make a great replacement due to time commitments. Cowell said he doesn't think a big name like Madonna could manage that.

"The good news for [the producers] is that there's no shortage of candidates," Cowell said.

But he wouldn't pick a favorite to take the spot as America's favorite music truth-teller.

"You're never going to pick anyone as good as you are, are you?" Cowell joked. "That's why I don't think anybody [at Fox] really asks me that question."

I think that the Howard Stern crew would do an excellent job at American Idol, bring it on I say.

I predict when Simon Cowell goes the show won't last long. Putting Ellen DeGeneres was the worst decision. It guaranteed I won't watch it. So who cares? American Idol is on its way out.

i agree with simon, stern would be a terrible choice. how about toby keith or trace adkins i think they would do great.

IDOL was through when they made Lesbo bore Ellen Degenerate a "judge". When Simon leaves (and he will), the show will be all done no matter who they put in his place. The decline began when they put in Cara Dioguardi (whoever she is) as a "judge" (of what??). Ellen "Degenerate" has proven to be the useless over-rated and indulged bore that she is. Dioguardi--talentless; Randy-enough already with the jive talk "yo, yo, dog". Stern? Pulllease! Stick to radio Howard!

Look it up genius - Kara DioGuardio is a SONGWRITER (and record producer). She's written for artists including Miley Cyrus, Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, Santana, Carrie Underwood, Enrique Iglesias and the list goes on and on..
Funny how songwriters are never credited with "talent" because nobody cares to look who their favorite songs are written by..Musical talent is a must for songwriters and producers.

Simon Cowell has a vast experience in the industry; his remarks about Stern are right on the mark. Stern is a sleazy individual who would bring discredit to the show. It is up to Fox to make the choice; it would be wrong for Simon Cowell to make the choice. DeGeneres is not of the music business but does have a broad experience of show business. A sensible choice if a controversial one.

I can just imagine nasty old Stern, behind the sceens asking the young contestants to show him some flesh...I am quite sure..Stern isnt even considerd for American Idol..He is too brash..

I like Cowell too much to criticize what he says too harshly, but if Stern is not qualified, how is Degeneris qualified to be a judge? Even she admitted that the only reason she is qualified is that she "likes music." That means anyone can be a judge. And since Degeneris herself is nothing more than an annoyance on Idol, once Cowell leaves there is absolutely no reason to watch the show anymore.

Stern is viewed correctly as human excrement, by civilized people. Any effort to put him in such a position would bring instant death to the show, American Idol.

Never thought I'd find myself agreeing with the likes of Simon Cowell, but he's right. I said it before. Stern would turn "Idol" into a freak show. And who's brilliant idea was it to even mention Stern's name?????

Stern knows nothing about music and is to vulgar to put on a family show. Putting him on is one way to kill the show which is already going to have a hard time surviving without Simon.

STERN MOST LIKELY THREW HIS OWN NAME IN THE MIX FOR THE PUBLICITY, HE'S WASHED UP GARBAGE. I DON'T THINK ANYONE HAS TO WORRY ABOUT IDOL BECAUSE ONCE COWELL LEAVES THE SHOW WILL END ANYWAY JUST AS IT DID WHEN HE LEFT IDOL IN ENGLAND, THE FOLLOWING SEASON IT FOLDED. HE'S A HARD ACT TO FOLLOW.

whatever. and what experience does ellen have? she is a sham. and i thought the point of the show was to give people a chance. there are people who sang better than kate perry and lady gaga ever thought about singing who were kicked off season after season.

So if Simon says, you have to have experience to sit in as a judge....well....what about Ellen. I really don't think Ellen has any experience in the music world other than what we all have.

I totally agree with Simon Cowell. Stern would destroy what is left of AI. He is a slob and should not be seen or heard on live TV. Keep him on satellite where he belongs, heard but not seen and can be turned off, fast.

If Stern ever made it to idol.....even as the janitor...I would delete the show from my list. There is enough sleeze in this world...we don't need any more sleeze on a show that brings in over 30 million viewers of all ages.
