'Deadliest Catch' Star Arrested Days After Dad's Death
Just days after the death of his father, 'Deadliest Catch' star Jake Harris has been arrested on drunk driving and hit and run charges following a car crash in Washington.
Harris, the 24-year-old son of late Captain Phil Harris -- who passed away earlier this month following a stroke -- crashed his BMW and kept driving on Thursday night in Shoreline, Wa. Police eventually spotted him from a helicopter, and were eventually able to pull Jake over.
"The car was registered to his father," according to Washington State Patrol spokesman Dan McDonald.
TMZ was the first to report the arrest. Harris also had a suspended license at the time of the arrest.
McDonald says that Jake "failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a toxicological test ... After further investigation, it was found that he was involved in a hit and run with another occupied vehicle earlier in the evening. He had rear-ended another car."
Jake, along with his brother Josh, shot to fame thanks to the success of 'Deadliest Catch,' on which they fish for crab on the fishing vessel Cornelia Marie that was captained by his dad, Phil. On February 9, Phil passed away after a string of health issues that were documented on the reality show.
Following a memorial for his father, Jake Harris reflected on the empty captain's seat on the Cornelia Marie. "I'm going to be looking at that chair in a different way ... We definitely talked about it, but I just didn't expect this to happen so soon," he said.

I'm not in any way saying that what he did was right. But, give him a break, he's probably pretty f***ed up right now. I know I was when I lost my dad. And I'm sure a lot of people out there know what I mean.

Amen!
yes i also hope that every time a tragedy strikes a family, that every one in that family gets cut a break and is allowed to get drunk and drive around crashing into things. there is no way that could snowball out of control, get drunk kill some one then that family can get drunk kill some one and so on, sounds like excellent form of population control you stupid asses
Too bad he didn't do it in Wisconsin where you see 7-time offenders drive.
What is he ran over a member of your family would you give him a break then. The law is the law if he wanted to drink he should have stayed home. He did not have a license why???
Duck you are so right. How can anyone condone this. I don't care what you say if you if you state give him a break then you condone what he did. Plain and simple.
Give me a BREAK! My Father died 10 years ago and I didn't go out and F**K everything in sight! CLUE: If you live long enough... every human being's Father & Mother will die......... DUH!!!!! Tiger has NO EXCUSE! One mistake, maybe, OK.... BUT HE WAS F**KING 19 different women.
I AGREE!!!
I lost my dad in April and am still having a hard time with it. And he was 82. I cant imagine what this young man is going through, losing his dad at such a young age. I agree with you and yes, I know exactly what you mean. Drinking and driving is not the answer, but he was drowning his sorrow, and what a horrible sorrow to bear. Dont judge people
Mourning the passing of a parent or other relative does not mean you go out drinking and driving...Period!!!!! I realize that he is going through a tough time. I've lost both of my parents. He could have killed someone. Give him a break??? Yeah alrighty then.
Losing a loved one does not mean it's OK to drink, drive and use your car as a weapon. Would you be so understanding if he injured or killed your son, daughter, mom or dad?
I can understand that the young man is suffering, but driving drunk can kill others or yourself. The young man is going to have to get help for his drinking and join AA. I wish in california the first drunk driving arrest had mandatory jail time and loss of your vechile, The alcohol lobbists are to powerful to let that pass.
I just lost my Mother 3 months ago and it's an emotional struggle. Stay home and have your drinks if you need them right now. Don't mess up your young life, your Dad wouldn't want any more from his death than to know you are or will be okay.
TATRODDER you are an ass. Millions of people have lost a parent, they too are suffering over the loss, you don't go out and risk taking someone's elses life by drinking and driving. You obviously have been fortunate enough to have not lost a loved one to some selfish SOB that decided to get behind the wheel drunk. You are probably one of those SOBs that drinks and drives.
I agree, there lives have been turned upside down. They both were really close to thier dad,he was a big part of thier life and now he is gone.
Jake is a drug user He knows better than to get behind a wheel of a car and drive. No drivers license, hit and run. I have lost both of my parents and didnt go crazy. Jake is spoil, a lier and a theif. O' a druggie also.
I hope they dont let him back on the boat. He needs to clean up his act before he hurts someone. I hope Josh washes his hands of his brother until he gets it together. Drug users like other drug users. I hope Jake on the Norhtwestern leaves Jake (c.m.) alone.
I agree...I've lost both parents and it isn't easy. Hope he is okay.

he will be fine ,hes famous so its not like they will put him in jail for this. They will just make him pay alot of money and some probation.Only poor people go to jail, thats how the criminal justice system works, and nobody is interested in fixing it.
It seems that Tiger among other celebrities have repeatedly violated their wedding vows and they get caught with their pants down. It seems as they marry for convenient reasons not realizing the extent of damages they incur especially with children involved. I pray that Tiger be truly honest with himself and to his love ones in making positive changes in his life. He is truly a very talented fellow.
