To be Christian you need to believe the whole thing. You can't pick and choose scripture to back up your own beliefs...All or nothing. Heaven or hell. Big choice to make.

Duffy, well I can agree in principal with what you are saying I have to take exception to how you are saying it. Let us remember that as we point out someone else's faults we have three other fingers pointing back at us. God did make Adam and Eve and not Adam and Steve. but let us also remember that He also did not make Adam and Eve and Sharon, and Medley, and Miss. October as He would have if he intended for us to have that kind of relationship with more than one person. Jesus says that we should take the plank out of our own eye before we look at the speck in another's.
We need to remember that the New Testament calls us to be more like Christ. God made man in His image, and ever since we have returned the favour. That is to say that we, even at church, seem to spend more energy proving that God, and Jesus is like us than trying to be like Him.
I would invite Elton John to prayerfully read the life of Christ again and seek counsel from the Holy Spirit, as well as people he agrees and does not agree with. In order to inform his position.
