Police and worried loved ones are searching for actor Andrew Koenig, best known for playing "Boner" on 'Growing Pains,' who went missing in Vancouver a week ago.
Koenig, 42, was last seen on Feb. 14 and missed his flight out of the Olympic host city two days later, according to a statement from TV host Dave Holmes on MaximumFun.org. Authorities are searching for the actor, who has recently been working as a camera operator on the comedy podcast, 'Never Not Funny.'
Andrew's father is Walter Koenig, who played Chekov in the 'Star Trek' series and films. The elder Koenig told PEOPLE he received a note from Andrew on February 16, but it did nothing to alleviate his concerns.
"He sounded despondent," said Walter. "Nobody has seen this [note] but my wife and I."
According to TMZ, Walter and Andrew's mother Judy described their son as "suffering from depression" and "not doing good" in the days before he disappeared. Regarding the depression that may have prompted his son's disappearance, Walter told PEOPLE, "I think it's something that has been a part of his makeup for a long time. There's no single trauma. There's no episode. There's nothing of that nature."
"He went to visit some friends in Toronto and after there, he went to Vancouver," explained his father. "It's a place where he felt very comfortable. He lived there for a few years."
While in Vancouver, he was staying with burlesque artist Jenny Magenta, who took to Facebook on Friday to ask for help in finding Koenig. Numerous celebrity friends have used social media to aid the search, including Sarah Silverman, Alyssa Milano and Felica Day. Comedian Joel McHale wrote, "No joke, here. Soup family friend Andrew Koenig missing in Vancouver."
One-time colleague Lance Miccio told TMZ he contacted Koenig about a possible project two weeks ago but Koening announced that he was "not going to work anymore."
Andrew's most recent role was 2008's 'InAlienable,' written and directed by his dad. For four years, Koenig played Mike Seaver's affable best friend Richard "Boner" Stabone on 'Growing Pains.' He was written off the show in 1989 when "Boner" signed up for the Marine Corps. Watch a clip from that episode:
Anyone with knowledge of Koenig's whereabouts is being asked to contact Det. Raymond Payette of the Vancouver PD at 604-717-2534.
Hey JT - What is considered a "real job"? As long as your making a living and paying your own way in life that is a "real job". Not everyone sits in a cubicle all day or works "8 hour day" jobs. The people in the show business are the ones who entertain you when you are not at your 8 hour a day job.
I guess once a child actor grows up and the camera no longer shines on him....or her....that can have a devastating effect on some people. Not the best casting name I agree.
Hey Steve relax people have right to says whatever they like if you don't agree with it then don't read it. SHUT YOUR MOUTHS. MAYBE THE GUY JUST NEEDED TO GET WAY FROM IT ALL FOR A WHILE. I Feel like that sometime but I have a real job I just can't get on a plane or into a car and leave for a few weeks.
I hope he didn't go down to the LOWER EAST SIDE OF VANCOUVER. Really, bad things happen there. I'll never forget what Willie Pickton did. At least he is locked up now, but it doesn't bring any sense of peace to the families of the women he killed, whom they never found..
I totally agree, she's a stripper. "Jenny Magenta" lol. That is horrible. Yikes. Ya, my fiance and I were invited by some random guy in the line at Kinkos to a local show recently and the guy mentioned it was burlesque. I said, oh really?? What is that? Oh, strip teasing basically..they have pasties on their nipples. So, like they are pretty much naked. We were shocked and I said, uh no..me and my fiance will pass on that for sure!!! Gross!! This guy is hanging with the wrong people..bad things surely follow if you are around bad crowds.
there actually is a big difference between burlesque and stripping. burlesque is more of a show or performance, with skimpy costumes, usually vintage and very expensive. strippin is gyrating on a pole in spandex bras and panties for dollars.
and though I risk the wrath of the moral righteous on this thread ... I'm so sick of has-beens "suffering" from acute depression over not being famous ... move on ... you should be thankful that you have work, shelter, a loving family ... there are single mothers suffering from cancer trying to figure out what to do with their kids .... that's a real problem ... not being sad that nobody notices you when you walk down the street.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

to bad he wasn't partying. To young to die.
I would suspect he's depressed over being the guy who played Boner on Growing Pains.

touche. He passed away. All we can do now is pray, if you pray, pray for his family.
"he was staying with burlesque artist Jenny Magenta"
So now we're referring to strippers as "burlesque artists"? Classy.
