Police and worried loved ones are searching for actor Andrew Koenig, best known for playing "Boner" on 'Growing Pains,' who went missing in Vancouver a week ago.
Koenig, 42, was last seen on Feb. 14 and missed his flight out of the Olympic host city two days later, according to a statement from TV host Dave Holmes on MaximumFun.org. Authorities are searching for the actor, who has recently been working as a camera operator on the comedy podcast, 'Never Not Funny.'
Andrew's father is Walter Koenig, who played Chekov in the 'Star Trek' series and films. The elder Koenig told PEOPLE he received a note from Andrew on February 16, but it did nothing to alleviate his concerns.
"He sounded despondent," said Walter. "Nobody has seen this [note] but my wife and I."
According to TMZ, Walter and Andrew's mother Judy described their son as "suffering from depression" and "not doing good" in the days before he disappeared. Regarding the depression that may have prompted his son's disappearance, Walter told PEOPLE, "I think it's something that has been a part of his makeup for a long time. There's no single trauma. There's no episode. There's nothing of that nature."
"He went to visit some friends in Toronto and after there, he went to Vancouver," explained his father. "It's a place where he felt very comfortable. He lived there for a few years."
While in Vancouver, he was staying with burlesque artist Jenny Magenta, who took to Facebook on Friday to ask for help in finding Koenig. Numerous celebrity friends have used social media to aid the search, including Sarah Silverman, Alyssa Milano and Felica Day. Comedian Joel McHale wrote, "No joke, here. Soup family friend Andrew Koenig missing in Vancouver."
One-time colleague Lance Miccio told TMZ he contacted Koenig about a possible project two weeks ago but Koening announced that he was "not going to work anymore."
Andrew's most recent role was 2008's 'InAlienable,' written and directed by his dad. For four years, Koenig played Mike Seaver's affable best friend Richard "Boner" Stabone on 'Growing Pains.' He was written off the show in 1989 when "Boner" signed up for the Marine Corps. Watch a clip from that episode:
Anyone with knowledge of Koenig's whereabouts is being asked to contact Det. Raymond Payette of the Vancouver PD at 604-717-2534.
I hope he is found, it's ashame when family has to suffer this way. It doesn't matter if he's a young child or an adult , he still someone's son' brother' or father that is missing 'it's no laughing matter. God's speed for his family in finding him.
I hope that putting as much info out there will help him be found alive, along with all the missing people. The more info out there can only help. As John Walsh would say..." Remember, you can make a difference " GOD BLESS
Well I hope the guy is ok,but ;it just goes to show fame and fortune does not buy happiness, you have to have it in you already.Where ever you are, whatever you're doing, strive to be happy
I hope they find the young man alive and well. What a terrible worry for his family.. I am a fan of Star Trek and always enjoyed seeing his Dad onscreen. I wish them good luck.
The flip side of depression, mania... He's probably having the time of his life spending money, having sex or he got a 5150 placed on him and he's under observation.
Let me guess hes probaly pissed away all his money and probaly signed away any possible re-run sindication money for a eight ball. Do all of us working class a favor stay missing
I hope he is ok. So awful reading people making light of this situation, unless one has gone thru serious depression you have no idea how horrible it can be, and yes it is a killer. It had nothing to do with him being a child star or other stupid remarks, it is a disease. My thoughts are with him and his loved ones, please let him be found and get him help.
I can't not believe people are making jokes on this human being who's suffering!Let me know what you do in your life and your pain and take a cheap shot a you!Christ-my mother left me when i was younger-i found her and she went missing again -well -she suffered from depression and on 11/14/09-they found her body-in a place where no one would find her-w/the weather -in was a assumed to the dectives in Buffalo,NY-she had been dead for several weeks! My heart goes out to him, family and friend and others who are suffering or had lost someone from depression-
I am so sad to hear what you said about your mom. I miss mine a alot. She passed in 2007, I know what it feels like. Stay strong, I know you have probably heard that many times and it gets old after awhile. Pain and depression are terrible don't fall into that. Hopefully you have support. If you don't maybe I can cheer you up just a little.
Such a bunch of ignorant morons here. You guys think your remarks a re funny. GROW UP. Andrew Koenig had serious depression. Telling someone who offered him a project that he was not going to work anymore--is a major red flag...followed by selling every thing he owned and then disappearing. I pray that he will be found and just needed to disappear for a short while. It does not look good at all. My heart goes out to his parents and family

They say having a Boner for more than 4 hours should be reported, let alone since 1989...
