'The View' Trumps 'Ellen' in Oprah's Time War

As Oprah readies her departure from network TV, executives are facing the fact that life -- and programming -- must go on, and that something big needs to fill Miss Winfrey's time slot. So, behind-the-scenes, there's been a bit of a war going on, and the feisty ladies of 'The View' seem to have triumphed ... and one of them is the reason why (Hint: It's not Elisabeth!). Find out the scoop after the jump!

'The View' to Replace 'Oprah'

Location, location, location. It's as important to the TV schedule as it is to the housing market, and no one has better time slots than 'The Oprah Winfrey Show.' But as O moves her Tom Cruise-trampled yellow couch out, the gals of 'The View' will be moving their yelling-prone round table in.

"It has been a behind-the-scenes war between the producers of 'Ellen' and 'The View' to try to get Oprah's slot," a TV insider tells me. "However, what gave 'The View' the edge over 'Ellen' was Joy Behar. Her solo show at 9 PM on Headline News is a huge hit and the 'SNL' impression of her has given 'The View' huge buzz."

A spokesperson for the show tells me, "We're thrilled 'The View' is getting so much attention, and while we think the hosts would be magic at any time of day, you can catch them every morning on ABC" -- though not for long.

Tabloids Shaking Over Brangelina Lawsuit

The legal action Angelina and Brad took against a British publication over rumors they had split has had an impact on coverage of the most famous couple all over the world, including the USA.

"They are thrilled that editors are now thinking twice before printing lies just to sell magazines and wish they had done it years ago," a source close to the couple tells me. And it is true that they haven't been on a cover of an American tabloid since they filed papers against the breakup lies coming out of the UK a few weeks ago.

Let's see how long it lasts.

Real Songwriters Getting Honored

A little bird tells me Leonard Cohen, Jackie DeShannon, Johnny Mandel, Earth Wind & Fire and -- my favorite -- David Foster will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame this year. Better luck next year, Britney!

just another reason i wont be watching abc in the afternoon or mornings. instead of one bigmouthed full of herself b#*#h you replace her with 4-5 just as bad knowitalls to tell me how i should think. thanks but no thanks.

the ellen show is much better than those clucking hens! i HATE the view. there is no point in watching it cuz the stars that are on there barely get a chance to talk cuz those idiots keep interrupting them and asking something else. i will never ever watch the view! those geese can go to hell

I do not know what island Mr. Shuter lives on, but on my friends and my island, Ellen is the top person. Love her and her graciousness. She is funny, not like Liz & Sheri who went to stupid college.

Oh' I like the GOP just fine, but not Elizabeth, substance, dear Lord she was on a reality show, again substance she has not.

Quite frankly, I feel that life is far too short to waste 1 second on The View or on Ellen!!!!! Walters, Behar, Whoopie - YUK!!!
Ellen the Wasted - - yuk! with Ellen being one of the reasons I now forgo watching American Idol. And it's been many years since Barbara WaWa has been effective as an interviewer . . Whoopie is a racist . .and Behar is an idiotic big mouth!!! Can you guess I can't stand these poor excuses for TV personalities????

A family show would be better, not a carpet licker or a bunch of nagging women, children and men will be left out, get a life networks, lets bring back the shows like Beverly Hillbillies, All in the family.Lets get back some moral shows. And the reality shows, they really suck, boring boring, I would even settle for Gunsmoke over these women nagging or a man in a womans suit.

I say good ridance to The View...like others have said and I agee it's all about who's ego can be heard the loudest and who needs that?? !!!!!!!!!! I am sick of any show on TV where the host yell and scream....Go Ellen!!! I love her show and watch her as often as time permits....

The View is all the women shouting down Elizabeth. And of course Elizabeth shouting back. Joy is a scary and harsh woman. I thought Whoopie was doing an OK job, but I quit watching that show a long time ago. I think the Bonnie Hunt show should take over for Oprah.

Ellen is hilarious and her show is always entertaining. She seems to be a down-to-earth REAL person. Why would anyone want to watch a bunch of loud-mouth, has-been (obviously) unhappy women attack anyone who doesn't wholly agree with them on any issue when they can watch Ellen dance her way down to the stage and keep us smiling for the entire hour?

I have watched American Idol faithfully throughout the seasons. If Howard Stern is chosen as a judge, I will not watch again. He is a rude, crude and disgusting human being. I don't understand......Ellen is already in the 4:00p time slot, but on another network. And, I can't stand the View...I especially dislike Elizabeth - she is nasty and doesn't know how to discuss a subject in a calm manner.
