Matthew Goode Calls Own Film 'the Worst of 2010'

It's a good thing acting is working out for Matthew Goode -- he could never fall back on a career in PR. While talking to the UK's
Telegraph, the actor called his recent film 'Leap Year' "turgid," saying, "I just know that there are a lot of people who will say it is the worst film of 2010."
Goode isn't wrong about his movie's reputation: 'Leap Year,' co-starring Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams, received a shameful 21% approval rating on movie review aggregate
RottenTomates. The quality of the film, Goode said, was not what drew him to the project -- it was the location.
"So that I could come home at the weekends," he explained. "It wasn't because of the script, trust me."
The proximity to home was no small issue for Goode. After his stint in 'Watchmen' last year, his agent has pressured him to relocate to the US -- a move Goode is dedicated to avoiding. "If I lived in LA, I'd be schizophrenic after a week. I'd just sit in a hotel room with a shoebox full of weed going: 'I'm not f***ing moving. If they want me, they can come here.'"
Regarding 'Leap Year', Goode added, "
I was told it was going to be like 'The Quiet Man' with a Vaughan Williams soundtrack, but in the end it turned out to have pop music all over it. Do I feel I let myself down? No. Was it a bad job? Yes, it was. But, you know, I had a nice time and I got paid."
Goode feels no guilt at panning his own movie, insisting actors should have the freedom to be honest about their work.
"Because of the way my repartee comes out, people tend to think that I don't care," he told the paper. "Actually, it's often just a result of my being in a situation where I'm embarrassed about having to talk about a film which I don't think is that brilliant -- but obviously I can't say that. I do think that it's important that one should be able to speak out without worrying about causing offence, or whatever."
"It saddens me that the romanticism has been ripped out of being an actor. It wasn't like that in Peter O'Toole's time, was it?"

I thought the movie was cute however it wasn't even CLOSE to the Quiet Man. That is one of my all time favs due to the location and the chemistry between John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. They were so great together. No one make movies like that. John Ford was a true artist. As for Mr. Goode, he was quite good and not too shabby to look at either!

I don't know how he can say it was the worst film ever when I thought it was the best I've ever seen. He and Amy were fabulous. I even bought a Claddaugh ring! I absolutely loved that movie. It didn't get its due acclaim.
I loved leap year!!!!

he seems like an ungrateful DOUCHEBAG, and he is dragging Amy down with him, but saying it's a bad film. I've not seen it, never seen HIM, but he certainly didn't gain a fan! Only took the job to be home weekends.... a million actors are standing in line, buddy... step aside.

I saw the movie and it was cute. It was very predicatable, but I always enjoy anything with a little romance for a date with my husband. I wouldn't buy the DVD but I do think that I would rent it from Redbox to see it again....He has the right to say it wasn't his best performance....but then maybe that will spur him on to do bigger and better things in the future. Going home is a big draw for a lot of people - I think that was cool for him. As long as I am entertained while watching a movie, I'm happy....and that's why there are many different genre's of movies for people - and that's why Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors. I think Amy Adams was really cute in the movie...even though I don't think the chemistry was electric - it was enjoyable.

I happen to think he's funny. It'srefreshing to hear the truth out of a celebrities mouth about their work. Sometimes people do a job just to do it. I t may not be their best work but they should be able to say so.

I saw the movie, and really liked it,,I don't know what the heck is talking about,,,,maybe he needs to do shoot em up type of movies with more violence,,,if he can't stand being in a chick flick get out of the industry,,when your an actor you need to do all type of roles,,,he should never say anything bad about this movie,,because actually we need more movies like this,,,especially with all the violence going on in the world,,,it was a fun movie,,,get over it,,,dude.

His final truth......"I got paid".....In the end, that's all that matters to these people. They could care less if there is any quality or not as long as they get paid.

This guy has every right to say whatever he wants about the film. Good actors do horrible movies all the time and they never have the guts to admit they were in a bad film. This kind of honesty is refreshing. And I don't blame him for taking the role. How many of us work jobs we don't like simply because we like to get paid.

I thought Leap Year recycled a lot of things from the John Cusak movie The Sure Thing. I didn't think Leap Year was bad for having to sit through a chick flick. The important thing was that my wife enjoyed it a lot.

There are so many people out of work,Matthew Goode should thank his lucky stars that he's working,he should apreciate what he has. There are many actors that would love to take his place. He isn't the only one that worked on that film,by saying the movie is the worst film of 2010,is insulting to the other actors, and everybody that work hard on the movie.

Sad. He sounds like an ungrateful jackass. He acts for a living. Stop acting like a little girl and be thankful you aren't digging ditches or hauling hay. You know, real work. He sucked in the movie, she was wonderful and carried the movie.

Yeah.... that movie did suck... So predictable.. I left halfway through it!!

Wow...I loved Leap Year and thought he was adorable but now not liking him so much. It was a sweet, innocent chic flick...I have seen far worse movies. The movie's ending message is what I tell my kids all the time...wanting and needing things are two totally different things. Kinda makes me sad that he is being so seemingly arrogant.

I am a bit picky about actors. I like the old time ones like Ruth Gordon, katherine Hepburn, Dustin Hoffman, George C. Scott, plus James Spader, Susan Sarandon, kevin Costner, Jody Foster. But I have to say, I saw this film, and now Matthew Goode is on my short list. I could watch him read the phone book and be just as happy. Yet, I think he's honest about this. I mean, for a decent actor, a "chick flick" like this is like someone with a degree in physics having to work for a summer in fast food. I also liked the film. I would love to see Matthew cast in a good dramatic movie. In this one, he's a bit underutilized as an actor, but he did a great job and no, I don't think he's ungrateful. He's honest, but willing to act. And he could act circles around some of these neo actor guys.
