Popular Facebook Pickle Surpasses Nickelback

Remember early February when that Facebook group popped up in your news feed, idly wondering if a pickle could garner more fans than Nickelback? Well, the pickle has officially won: As of this posting, the pickle boasts1,489,737 fans, just ahead of Nickelback's 1,422,984.

The Facebook group's founder, Coral Anne, wrote a lengthy post yesterday answering questions she has fielded in the past three weeks and clarifying that she does not hate Nickelback. "Are they one of my favourite bands? No, but, I didn't make this page to endorse hate. I have to respect Nickelback just like any artist out there in the world, because even though they may not be a band that has helped me with their music, I know there must be people out there who their music has inspired," Anne wrote, adding, "This pickle page is strictly intended for humour. The whole time, I was pro-pickle, more than anti-Nickelback."

Anne credits a similar group, "Can this onion ring get more fans than Justin Bieber?" as the impetus for what's now become one of the most absurd rivalries in rock history.

"I thought [the onion ring group] was pretty funny and creative, and a pickle getting more fans than Nickelback suddenly came to mind and I literally just sat there by myself laughing. I think I mostly found it funny because pickle rhymes with nickel and it would sound catchy," Anne wrote.

Anne registered shock at the viral momentum the pickle group has taken on since Feb. 3. The onion ring group that inspired her notched just under 77,000 fans.

Hmmmm, I wonder if the "Pickle" has sold 30+ million records (and continues to sell CDs at a time and in an economy when no one else does) and yet continued to live its life with the same "down to earth" attitude that Nickleback has.... yea... didn't think so. And that is the real test. Pickle FAIL! GO NICKLEBACK!!!!

I agree, haters are a waste of space. If it's not your kind of music just change the station ppl.... it's not rocket science, it's just rock and roll! I love "whynot's" idea about a facebook poll on who has more fans... a pile of dog dooey or the nasty person who thought she was so great and decided to put down one of the most followed and loved bands around the world. I bet the dog dooey would win too! Love You Nickleback!!!

Some people have too much time on their hands, as in me. Had I seen the the pickle vs Nickelback I would have jumped on it and voted as Nickelback is the bomb and I would have done it just to support them whether the intent was to be funny or not. They do not have to defend their popularity, the tickets sales says it all. Seen them last year at Verizon, Noblesville..the largest attendance ever by any band who has been there. Already have my tickets for May....YOU ROCK NICKELBACK!!!

AWESOME! Nickleback really sucks, I mean they really blow, I mean I hate them so much, I mean I would rather listen to the sound of a beetle burrowing into my brain than one Nickleback song. I can't even ame any of them, they are just so painfully bad. I think if they died in a fire, I probably wouldn't care. I hate you Nickleback, I hate you so much.

Its just a silly facebook page. No one was ATTACKING Nickleback or Chad. Its not an Anti-Nickleback campaign. Who said they were trashy? All the author of the page said was that Nickleback wasn't their favorite artists. I'm not a fan of Whitney Houston's music, does that mean I think she's trashy? No. It's just a Facebook page that a whole bunch of people signed up for to see if they could actually do it. I think its pretty neat that it actually achieved more fans.

I don't even like pickles and I joined the site. Funny how people are getting their panties bunched up over a joke. Also funny how people think it's a "vote" thing. You join or you don't. Btw Nickelback is popular, but it's popularity is soo mainstream and there songs are soooo soft that people who like harder rock are bound to hate them. It's like calling Taylor Swift country or Miley Cyrus talented. But I get why kids like all that stuff.
