The parents of missing 'Growing Pains' actor Andrew Koenig were scheduled to appear on 'Larry King Live' last night, but the couple left the studio before recording their segment of the show, E! reports. Breaking news ate into the Koenigs' allotted time -- and when King introduced the couple toward the end of the show, he found them missing.
"For some reason unbeknownst to anyone, Walter Koenig, the father of the missing Andrew Koenig, and [Andrew's mother] Judy Levin-Koenig... left the studio in Vancouver," King said during the broadcast.
"We checked them out, they were prepared to go on, I said 'hello,' they said 'hello,'" he continued. "We said we'd be on in two minutes, they said 'fine.' And they got up and left, for reasons unknown."
A 'Larry King Live' staffer told RadarOnline.com, "What I know is exactly what you saw and heard on our show."
Andrew's father is Walter Koenig, who played Chekov in the 'Star Trek' TV series and films. The elder Koenig and his wife issued a statement yesterday: "I just want to know you're OK," Walter said directly to his son. "If it means you just want to stay here, that's OK. You don't have to come back. Just let us know that's your intention."
Koenig's sister Danielle also made a visit to 'Larry King Live,' but taped her segment as scheduled on Tuesday. "It's just very upsetting," she said. "My brother does suffer from depression, so we're very, very worried about him, and we just want to find him."
Andrew's most recent role was 2008's 'InAlienable,' written and directed by his dad. For four years, Koenig played Mike Seaver's affable best friend Richard "Boner" Stabone on 'Growing Pains.' He was written off the show in 1989 when "Boner" signed up for the Marine Corps. Watch a clip from that episode:
Anyone with knowledge of Koenig's whereabouts is being asked to contact Det. Raymond Payette of the Vancouver PD at 604-717-2534.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding what transpired here. From what I understand, the parents were to go on Larry King's show to hopefully get word spread about their son's disappearance. They kept getting delayed and preempted to more and more the end of the show, and the parents (I'm thinking) left out of frustration that their cause seemed less important than what was currently going on in the show. If that is the case, I'd be pissed, too, and I'd leave as well.
Tess, I understand what you're conveying and I agree that it would be frustrating to be pushed back like that and to even have to listen to lesser stories while you anxiously wait to have your say. It's unclear exactly why these people left the studio, but It seems to me that it was more likely that they received word of some kind that hastened them away, rather than it being that they were miffed and took off. If that were the case, however, it would beg the question as to why would you wait all that time, only to leave once you're told, "You're next, we'll be on in two minutes..", and if you found yourself in the nightmare of being the anxious parents of a missing child, you wouldn't give up your one hope of reaching millions of viewers all at one time, just so you could storm off and pout because you weren't the most important one in the room. Were this my child, I'd be prepared to wait as long as it took for the chance to reach so many and possibly save my son.
It's probably time for Larry King to go. The last few times I tried watching his show, I couldn't understand most of what he was saying with all the slurred speech.
i just hope that whever he is, that he's ok and just needs a moment for clarity, and not something terrible! My prayers and thoughts go out to his family .... i look at him in his photos and say what a truly hamdsome man with his whole life in front of him .... im hoping this one sweet face will b strong and no dispair has taken him. be strong Andrew! Be safe, J. Peace.
I never watch Larry King anymore, but I still like him. The "dinosaur" as "rlau290541" describes is Jay Leno, not Larry King The Tonight Show can finally R.I.P. For the sake of his parents, Andrew Koenig could at least telephone.
I actually had a lot of sympathy for Walter Koenig (father of the missing man) up until this point. How dare he walk off Larry King. Just who does this z-list celebrity, Walter Koenig, think he is? You go on coast-to-coast TV to spread the word that your son is missing and then walk off because the host doesn't dedicate an entire hour to some basket case who ran away? Get lost! And I just visited Walter Koenig's Web site, what a joke that is. He is looking for his son, OK, I get it. But how dare he tell people not to contact him. I am sorry but Walter Koenig is on a total trip and is using his son's disappearance to glom onto the limelight. His son probably ran away from him. I will no longer dedicate any of my time to following the idiotic attention-seeking stories of Walter Koenig and his missing kid (a 40+++ year-old man, BTW!!!)
Carrin, 1) maybe they got some tragic news that called them away. 2) Walter is just a working stiff like the rest of us; his job is different but still a job. 3) Maybe they have asked people not to contact them because of the many nasty immature people who have flooded the sight with jokes and criticisms at a time when they probably are losing their minds with grief and worry.
Just parents who think they are privileged and go to the head of the line, because they are riding on the laurels of their successful son. No loss. Do hope their son is found, however.
To the folks who can't seem to process this situation, stop for a moment, look around, pick someone in your life that you love, now imagine they dropped off the face of the earth. Seriously imagine, yeah that's called empathy. That's what makes you a human. So my question to some of you posters is. Human, much?
larry king is a fossil and a hollywood suckup.the poeple that dont like nancy grace are affraid of her. yes she is a little rough arround the edges but if you are guilty she will let you know.as for patsey ramsey she got lucky she didnt live long enough to go to jail for killing her daughter.anybody remember the hiring of lawers right after the dissapearance.that woman was hiding a secret.
You have no idea how horrificly painful this is unless you have had a child missing, feared dead. You have NO idea. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy and those of you being smart alec's about it better hope it doesn't happen to one of your loved ones. It is the most unbearable thing in the world.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos
