John Mayer has been losing friends right and left this month, following a controversial (and arguably racist) interview in Playboy wherein the singer graphically discusses Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston and his "white supremacist" private parts. What better way to regain fans' love than with the help of an 11-year-old boy?
New Jersey sixth-grader Austin Christy attended John's Sunday night concert in Philadelphia with a sign reading "Can I play 'Belief' with you?" -- and when Mayer spotted Christy in the crowd, he invited the youngster onstage to do just that, reports CourierPostOnline.com.
Christy played for a crowd of roughly 25,000 fans and left with a guitar signed by the rocker himself, reading: "To Austin, You rock. Keep playing. See you at your show."
"I was really excited. I was thinking that it wasn't real," Christy said after the show, adding that he's a fan of Mayer because "his music is different than all the other artists. A lot of them are R&B and hip-hop. He's like a combination of pop and blues."
The duet received thunderous applause, and Mayer told the audience, "That's my man," indicating Christy.
"I said I was a big fan, and he said back to me he could tell," Christy said in the interview. "I thought it was pretty cool because a lot of other artists wanted to play with him and he picked an 11-year-old out of a lot of better artists."
Christy's mother wrote a note to John's management team, which read: "John made an 11-year-old's dream come true. John gave him the guitar after the show and we needed security to get out of the stadium."
"Everyone wanted a picture with [my son]. If you get a chance, watch some of the videos on You Tube, it is touching. As John said, 'The kid pulled through.' I just wanted to thank JM for pulling through for Austin."
Mayer, who has been uncharacteristically absent from Twitter since his Playboy debacle, posted a new message after the show: "8 out of 8 band members agree, Philly is always an awesome show. XO J."

Yeah, because that John Mayer, he's just evil, isn't he? You think that he's the only guy to ever talk smack? Men brag about their conquests. It's part of their nature, good or bad. It's primal. Deal with it. Maybe you've never said anything stupid or inappropriate, but it happens, and instead of sheilding children from other people's mistakes, perhaps taking the time to use it as an example of how NOT to be would be a more constructive thing to do. As for Austin, that boy's got some chops!! No matter what Mayer's motivation, that kid is going to remember this for the rest of his life...and that's priceless. I watched the video and honestly, I cried a little. I can't imagine what was going through Austin's head. Props to Mayer for encouraging a fellow musician.
Some discerning parents this poor kid has. I wonder if he has a sister? If so, would the parents want THEIR DAUGHTER to be spoken of in the gross and disgusting manner in which Mayer has, FOR YEARS, referred to EVERY WOMAN he has ever dated, from Jennifer Love Hewitt to Taylor Swift? This man has never shown one woman an ounce of respect. One can only wonder what kind of crack wh@re of a mother raised him.
To: CheapAniston...How disgusting of you to refer to John Mayer's mother in such a manner. I guess it goes to show what type of mother brought you up to be such a low class person.
I DID NOT SEE THE PLAYBOY INTERVIEW, THUS I HAVE NO OPINION REGARDING SAID INTERVIEW, BUT WHAT HE DID FOR THAT YOUNG MAN WAS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE COOLEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN.
I did read the Playboy interview either, nor am I a real John Mayer fan... With all that having been said, I think what John did for this kid was very special. Weather it was 'staged' or not isn't really the point. He did something to boost a kid....and if you have a problem with that, YOU'RE DUMB!!!
John did a great thing for that kid. John obviously isn't perfect but he plays great music and has everything in skirts chasing him. What guy wouldn't get warped and forget. I don't applaud crude behavior but I can understand how it happens.
I think people put too much stock in things now a days. Lets just try to see things at face value once in a while. Maybe it was a gimmick but I'm sure it was the experience of a lifetime for that little boy and I think it was very sweet. That will be something he can look back on when he's 60 and tell his grandkids about. How many people can talk about the time they played with a famous musician in front of hundreds of people?
The Interview was his rock bottom for his expanding ego, he said it himself. He's young, talented, and realizing just because you have fame, you need to think before you speak. I thought this was really cool that he did this for that little kid. Austin will never forget this!

I would not let my child within a 1000 yards of him. If I did what message do I send? That he's ok. NOT!!!!!!!!!!
