Road Report: Vedera Make Time for Rest and Relaxation
By Vedera Posted Feb 25th 2010 05:06PM
Last fall, Vedera made an appearance on MTV's 'The Hills' that launched them into buzz band territory. The Kansas City natives performed their debut single, 'Satisfy,' and were filmed spending time with the cast backstage.
Now, the pop-rock four-piece is back in the limelight, touring with Jack's Mannequin and Fun in support of their current album, 'Stages.' In their latest Road Report, lead singer Kristen May talks about finding quiet spaces down time while balancing the chaos of tour.
San Antonio, Texas at the White Rabbit. This venue is one of those where you want to make sure you don't sit down on the toilet; one where the green room is shared by all the bands and the gear, waiting to be rushed on stage. It's a place where it's dark enough that you can just barely see what's in front of you along with a lingering smoker's fog (before the ban).
I usually find myself walking the streets of the surrounding town to find a bit cozier environment before shows like this. I search for a place I can brush my teeth and maybe apply a bit of makeup in a mirror without the words "for a good time call" written in Sharpie. On this particular journey, Brian and I stumbled upon a super adorable wine/coffee bar that also served delicious food. Plus the bathrooms were clean ;). We vowed to take the rest of the band here after our set for some necessary R&R.

In spite of the grubby exterior, the show turned out great!! What the venue was lacking in appearance the crowd made up for in enthusiasm and excitement. Everyone played a great set! In addition to the show, Brian's cousin (living in San Antonio) met us for dinner and we headed back to our newly found dinner haven for food and drinks.
The next show was at the House of Blues in Dallas. Sound check was a breeze and all were in goods spirits for what turned out to be a great night. This venue has become somewhat of a Texas home base for us. Our fans showed up and we had a good hangout time with them after the show. Another great perk of all the travel is seeing friends who have moved away from our home in KC. I got to have some much-needed girl time with a college roommate, who recently made the move along with Brian's brother Jimmy, who just moved out there to be a tattoo artist. There was big talk of getting tour tattoos with the guys in Fun, but we chickened out at the last minute. Playing your set with a bandage on is pretty rock and roll, so maybe next time ;).
Next stop on tour was home sweet home, Kansas City. We had just enough time to hug our friends and family and get an extra long night of rest in our own beds, then it was goodbye! The next day we were on the road by 7 a.m. en route to Minneapolis and finally, Chicago. We just finished our show here at the House of Blues and I'm looking forward to the next one tomorrow night. (Two nights, sold out!) But I'm heading to bed early to rest for our TV spot tomorrow morning and hopefully I'll have enough time to hop in a cab and visit a couple of my favorite Chicago spots. I love this city! And I love this job. Goodnight.
