Fourth season 'American Idol' contestant Constantine Maroulis had a lot to say about the singing competition when he chatted with PopEater at USA Network and Vanity Fair's 2010 Character Approved Awards in New York. While the 'Rock of Ages' star approves of Ellen DeGeneres as a judge, he believes the show will implode when Simon Cowell leaves after this season. "It's unfortunate. He's a mogul and going to go on to greater and greater things ... but the show is really going to miss him," Maroulis tells PopEater. "I hope they just end it after this year."

Unfortunately, the American viewing public seems to be satisfied with watching a bunch of minimally talented "wailers and screamers", and feels it to be oh, so important that they register votes on which one of the vocal losers is LEAST objectionable as a performer. Last year's "winner", the sad sack from Oklahoma, was absolutely abominable, but he rode his sob-story hard luck tail all the way to the end. Pardon me while I puke...
The d-bag is right. How many "winners" can be called successes? Lasting successes? Clarkson and Underwood. And Clarkson? Where is she now? She imploded after a few years "at the top". For Underwood, it's still wait and see. Everyone else was hot for barely a minute and then gone off all radar.
What little value "Idol" has left is the entertainment Simon provides. Without him, it's like hanging around your high school once you've graduated - plain pitiful.

I agree American Idol is dying and Simon Cowell leaving will be the nail in the coffin.
I love Constantine though and he is actually starring on Broadway now which I'm not sure he would be if it hadn't been for Idol. Never know. He's very talented but AI is great exposure. He is actually one of the few who are successful after being on the show and not winning.

The REAL problem with Idol is that the show hasn't produced a bona fide recording star since Kelly Clarkson. Sorry Ms. Underwood, but country music doesn't count.
