Jenny McCarthy 'Fixed' Son's Autism
Jenny McCarthy is arguably most famous for her role as autism advocate who staunchly condemns vaccines for their possible link to the disorder in children, though she began her career as a Playboy model turned actress and comedian. She prayed for the strength to "fix" her own son Evan, who has suffered the symptoms of autism for years, and she tells
Time that her prayers have come true.
"Evan couldn't talk -- now he talks. Evan couldn't make eye contact -- now he makes eye contact. Evan was antisocial -- now he makes friends. It was amazing to watch, over the course of doing this, how certain therapies work for certain kids and they completely don't work for others ... When something didn't work for Evan, I didn't stop. I stopped that treatment, but I didn't stop."
The Time article calls into question whether Evan ever had autism at all. "Evan's symptoms -- heavy seizures, followed by marked improvement once the seizures were brought under control -- are similar to those of Landau-Kleffner syndrome, a rare childhood neurological disorder that can also result in speech impairment and possible long-term neurological damage," the piece reads, even going so far as to suggest that Evan's social difficulties could be explained by simple shyness.
"Perhaps the miracle I have beheld is the quotidian miracle of childhood development: a delayed 2-year-old catching up by the time he is 7, a commonplace, routine occurrence, nothing more surprising than a short boy growing tall."
McCarthy would, of course, disagree. However, the mother now supports more research into vaccinations rather than eliminating them entirely - though, she says, Evan will never receive another. She still believes there is an undeniable connection between vaccines and her son's condition.
"Come and see our kids. Why won't the CDC come and talk to the mothers, talk to the families? Then tell us there isn't a link."
As she deals with Evan's difficulties and travels the country speaking to mothers in similar situations, she credits one thing with getting through the hardest times: hope. "Try everything," she suggests. "Hope is the only thing that will get us up in the morning."

Check your facts. McCarthy met Carey well after her son's recovery. If you knew anything, you would also know that McCarthy also dealt with her son's autism at it's peak as a single mother, because most parents of autistic children separate due to the enormous stress of caring for an autistic child. Also, after briefly dating, McCarthy broke up with Carey to care for her son. It wasn't until McCarthy's son's recovery is when her and Carey became serious. Looks like you missed the bus because I just schooled you on getting your facts straight!!!
Autismmom,
your false facts are an example of why this situation is so convoluted and our children are not better. Jenny does not blame MMR, MMR NEVER contained thimerosal. Read up before you go on sites and state ignorance as facts. Pathetic.Especially for an autism mom.
My doctor agrees with Jenny McCarthy about vaccines and so do I. It's not that vaccines are "bad" it's that your flooding the body of a tiny new human being with poison. Is there any reason why these vaccines can't be given in smaller doses? I read an article of a woman who was HARRASSED by the nurses where she had her baby because they wanted to give her baby a vaccine against a sexual disease. She stood her ground and refused to allow them to give her baby the vaccine without first researching it. When she took her baby to her doctor she found out the vaccine was not only unneccessay but it was also dangerous. Do your research, people, don't just do what someone else tells you you "should" do!

The original Lancet submission claiming a link between autism and the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) shot has been discredited for years, and was recently withdrawn. The author even admits he was wrong. There isn't a single shred of evidence linking vaccinations to autism. It's as realistic as the "man never walked on the moon" and 9/11 conspiracy theories.

YOU're the idiot for not believing that prayers can be answered... Or was it just her prayers you don't believe were heard? GOD has a sensitive ear to the prayers of the righteous. Perhaps you think you are a better judge of her worthiness than you were of her intelligence? Maybe its best if you don't judge her at all?

I think all who judge a person with the valor and strength like Jen McCarthy, no matter what you your conception of her are just wrong. I admire her for spreading the word and creating awareness about Autism with her case. Shame on people who judge her without knowing what she has gone through. I thought my son was typical until doctors told me ohterwise and that was all due to not being aware of Austism. I believe only people who have dealt with Autistic children by profession or are parents of an autistic child can only understand. We should concentrate on the disorder and not what people think of Jen's character.

Raise your kids... be with them every day... how much STUFF do you need... cook for the kids, sit with them after school, help them with homeowrk, be in their lives every day... take STRANGERS...especially PAID strangers OUT of their lives... see just how autistic they are.
