Oprah Books Interview With Roger Ebert

In what has already been a season of big guests, talk show mogul Oprah Winfrey will soon sit down with film critic and close personal friend Roger Ebert,
Boston.com is reporting.
The interview -- which airs Tuesday -- will be especially notable, as Ebert's recent bout with thyroid cancer has rendered him speechless. To accommodate, Ebert will use text-to-speech computer technology to field Oprah's questions, according to the report. His wife, Chaz, will also make an appearance.
In recent years, Ebert -- who hosted 'At the Movies' and its incarnations for about 20 years -- has stayed relatively out of the spotlight, due to his illness. However,
as we previously reported, Esquire magazine ran a profile on the Pulitzer Prize-winning critic earlier this month, in which he said, "There is no need to pity me. Look how happy I am."
Ebert still writes regularly for the Chicago Sun-Times.
During her 20th anniversary special, Oprah revealed that it was Ebert who convinced her to go into syndication while out on a date in the '80s. Ebert later
confirmed the story in a 2005 piece.

Palmer, You've got to be kidding. They engaged in lively debate as they were both passionate about movies. They were never cruel to each other. They challenged each other - that's what good critics do. Gene could take the occassional barb, he relished in it. Roger Ebert & Gene Siskel were best of friends and Roger grieves for him to this day.

Palmer, I don't think he was mean on purpose to Gene Siskel...that was the point of the show, they just showed their difference of opinions. I am from Chicago, and both of those men were really good friends...it's sad that we lost Gene years ago, he was a brilliant man, but Roger is just as lovable and respectable. I wish him the best.
