Celebenomics: How Elin Nordegren Should Proceed

It's been over a week since Tiger Woods' apologetic quasi-press conference, and as everyone dissects what this means for El Tigre, the better question is what it means for Elin. After her hubby's confessions and indiscretions, the cuckolded Swedish meatball has all the leverage she needs to grab herself a serious slice of his $600 million fortune. All signs now point toward a reconciliation -- Elin just returned from a week-long getaway with Tiger and their children in Arizona, which is reportedly the most time she has spent with him since news of the scandal broke over the Thanksgiving holiday.

From a monetary standpoint, it is in Elin's best interest to try to make this marriage work (to say nothing of their two children). But how should Elin play her cards to make sure she gets hers?

"It's pretty obvious that Tiger is now willing to say and do just about anything to protect his brand, and that means protecting his marriage. How Elin treats Tiger going forward is going to have a big effect on how the public treats Tiger, and because he now needs her more than she needs him, she is in the power seat," says divorce attorney Stacy Schneider, author of 'He Had it Coming: How to Outsmart Your Husband and Win Your Divorce.'

First, she needs to tear up her pre-nup and negotiate a binding post-nuptial agreement, says Schneider.

"She needs to make sure she gets a lump sum payment for every year she has already served in the marriage. Fifteen million a year makes sense for the years already under her belt," Schneider says. That would give Elin a set amount of $90 million for the six years she has already spent with Tiger, much better than the reported $20 million she stood to gain from the original pre-nup. "Then she needs to insert a clause that gets her another lump sum for every year she stays in the marriage, and now that her actions have a direct effect on his sponsorships, she should get a cut of all sponsorships going forward."

Most actors and sports stars have a morals clause in their contract. Elin needs to insert a "Mistress Clause." If he cheats again, she gets paid -- big time.

At this point, Elin benefits if Tiger looks good, no matter how much she despises him.

"The more Tiger's celebrity good will increases, the more money will be coming in from endorsements. Any time that there is more pie at the table, everyone will benefit," says Los Angeles divorce attorney Steve Mindel.

And from Tiger's point of view, it is in his best interest to keep her happy. A happy wife is a quiet wife.

"Tiger has the incentive to buy her confidentiality at this point, because that will be worth three times as much to his future reputation. If Tiger comes up with the money, it can go smoothly," says divorce attorney and family law expert Sue Moss.

As both parties work toward their best interests, profits will be maximized for the entire Woods family. As the media begins to look at him through the lens of the loving, if flawed, family man, he will rebuild his image, and she will build a sizable nest egg for herself and her children -- even if it means being paid to bury feelings of embarrassment, shame and frustration.

LEAVE the bum but keep the relationship with his children and himself.
My uncle caught his wife cheating with another man. ONE other person. He felt if she did it once, she would eventually do it again. She begged him to take her back and he refused.
Years later he met and married a woman who made the first wife look sick as she was. My uncle died about 5 years ago at 90 years old and after 60 years with the second wife, he died a happy man with her still by his side.

NEVER stay for the children . . speaking from experince it make it more painful watching the hurt everyday!!!

I totally agree that a couple should never stay together for the children. One reason being that adults should give kids more credit than the do because they're not stupid. They can very well detect the anger, the hostility, anger resentment and hurt around them. They know something is wrong and often the child/children start to display different behavior. It is confusing to them and can leave scars that may or may not heal. They have misconceptions that this is how family life really is. When I hear someone say "I'm doing it for the child/children," the first thing I think is no they're not they're doing it for themselves, hurting them in the process.

Don't do it, Elin - do what Jenny Sanford did! Hold your head high, take what you have and and divorce him. You're young, beautiful, with your whole life ahead. And you would not be a good role model for your children if you stayed - the lesson learned would be that of blackmail and money monger. Yes - be cordial and maintain a good relationship with the father of your children, but don't show them that money is more important than a loving relationship. You're already ahead of the game by being graceful under enormous pressure and scrutiny and not hanging Tiger "out to dry" like the other women. Be even more classy by showing your kids that you can have a good relationship with your "ex-spouse."

Elin if you can get past this and still love the man then stay not for money or fame or whatever else is out there. I am sure he know what he dud was horribly wrong with many reasons behind it fame, empowerment, the loss of his father. youjustify to yourself when you are doing something wrong. but Elin if you can find it in your heart this may make your marraige stronger you smarter and a man who finally knows what a treasure he has in you. but do what YOU think is RIGHT

If Elin stays, It would be a SHAM of a marriage, Just like the Hollywood celebrity ones- All about money for SEX!!! Nothuing is worse than a money contract to stay with a PIG- She should take the money and find REAL HAPPINESS away from this MALE WHORE- How she can live her life with this PIG would be totally hellish for her and the kids- I cant believe that she would EVER think about having a decent relationship with someone who has DISRESPECTED her that many times-!!!Please leave!!!!!

20 million dollars is plenty. If she demands more, Tiger should simply move on. He was an idiot for doing the things he did, but turning his wife into a prostitute by paying her to stay with him isn't gonna fix the marriage. If she demands money to stay, that's what she is turning herself into. She should either leave, which is not a bad idea, or stay and try to work things out. Asking for more money to stay cheapens her as a woman.

Elin, think for yourself. Granted he made a mistake but believe in first time, it hurts but given the chance I believe in his earnest try will make him a wiser man. We all can make a mistake once but I don't believe in not giving someone you love a chance to make things better. The ones that are saying "Leave the guy" are thinking about you. Jealousy, anger because they could have had it happen to them or an "Uncle" means it cannot be made right, anything can be made right if you want it to happen. As for the ones that have made a gold mine off of Mr. Woods and now dumping him off the back of the boat are right either. That's called "Using him." As for you Tiger Woods, STOP TALKING TO THE PRESS OR ANY MEDIA. You are making them richer by the day. Keep your home life personal. You have one forgiving person on your side and I'm banking on many, many more.

Thank you for a thoughtful humane review of this ugly situation. America was an idealistic and forgiving nation in the past and I am pleased to see that there are some Americans left. I am very pleased to see Elin with her husband, giving lie to all those who would cheapen marriage and a stable family for the children of our future. I have found that my failures have taught me much more than my successes and the capricious praise of adoring fans. It is a cliche', but nevertheless true, that "in times of crisis true character is revealed." I have long believed Elin Woods to be the real deal: A wife who loves her husband and a warm and loving mother, without the need for a public facade. I am please to have my faith in her true values confirmed. I wish them well, and am truly hopeful that Tiger learns much from this whole ordeal that will make him a better human being.
