Tiger Woods' College Girlfriend Takes His Side

"Tiger was a great boyfriend," Irene Folstrom writes on Golf.com. She dated Woods while an undergrad at Stanford in the mid '90s. Her essay of admiration, published Wednesday, offers the first supportive words for the embattled superstar delivered by a lover, former or current, since Woods crashed his Escalade on Nov. 27. And Folstrom isn't "coming forward now for money or to advance any pathetic showbiz aspirations," she writes. Of course, that's what Joslyn James said...

The 500 word reminiscence includes details of Folstrom and Tiger Woods' year and a half romance, which ended amicably when the golfer became a pro after his sophomore year and Folstrom decided to continue her studies.

"The speculation that he's being treated for sex addiction is surprising because we enjoyed a normal sexual relationship," the advocate for Native American causes writes.

Just about every aspect of the relationship appears normal.

Folstrom became close with Tiger's parents: "Earl often made me laugh so hard, my stomach muscles cramped." She and Tiger loved eating Chinese food, and they would drive down to Southern California and spend time on the beach.

"We would steal a bottle of whiskey from Earl or I'd use my fake ID to buy a jug of wine, and we'd hang out and dream about the future."

Normal college kids doing normal college things.

But Tiger wasn't normal. He never has been. He was hailed as the savior of an old man's sport before he hit puberty. He was blessed with tremendous athleticism, and perhaps an even more tremendous mind.

"Tiger had an ability to shut things out and compartmentalize his emotions," Folstrom writes. "Even back then he felt enormous pressure to be Tiger Woods."

"Maybe this was his form of escape."

I am not against mix marrage.i am married to a pilipina but why do blacks like tiger after geting money rarely marry black women and they live away from other blacks. I thought black was beautiful

Black is beautiful (just like all other races are beautiful) and who one marries or dates, live or whatever is their choice just like you chose who you married. By the way you spelled it incorrectly too. What you're suggesting sounds like segregating the races. Also in case you didn't know Tiger isn't only Black. He's Caucasian and Asian as well. It really kills me when people just categorize a person as Black if they have one drop of blood in them from someone of that race. Thus Tiger is MUTI-RACIAL.

Who cares about Tiger's indescretions? Maybe Elin, but the rest of us should just butt out of it. He isn't running for President and isn't a Religious leader so I say, "GO TIGER GO!"

Like many professional athletes/celebrities/rockstars there are women who will allow themselves to be used so that they can bask in the reflected glory of his fame.

Again, Elin cares, but do we???

Just get out there and win Tiger! Regardless of where your balls land or you put your putter, just keep swinging, smiling and winning tournaments!!!

How insensitive. It plainly stated she wanted nothing but to say that she was on his side for support and was letting everyone know about what he was like then, at that particular time. They don't say if his girl friend was his kind or not. Most people don't care if he had 50 women but when crossing that line, he made himself an enemy to us. I stopped playing golf because this guy has now given it a bad name.
